This was from a RUSA parent and posted to teamsnap. It wasn’t me but I experienced the same thing. Sad that these kids suffer at the hands of soccer club owners.
In case you didn’t receive my chat:
I had a chance to speak with Justin this afternoon. He informed me that this tournament was never meant for the black 06 team as they don’t have enough players (7 right now). When asked why black, who haven’t had a tournament all season despite playing full fees weren’t offered the opportunity to go with some gold players filling in I was informed that this was for the development of the team moving forward. I reminded him that black was pulled out of a tournament in the fall because the competition was below their level and pointed out that the upcoming tournament also had teams far below what the gold team normally plays. I received no explanation why this was now acceptable. I told Justin that from this parent’s perspective the black team was only there in the service of the gold team, to subsidize their costs as they travel to tournaments, and to play in black league games. I was assured that this was not the case and that they were in fact “interested” in developing black players. I was told that my daughter could get game time in the “scrimmages” this Sunday. I did confirm that this tournament occurs during the RUSA 2019-20 season and is included in our fees. So, despite my conversation and explanations I remain unconvinced that this B team is given any thought or consideration with regards to player development. I received no justification as to why I should pay $2000+ for 8 games while the A team plays more games AND 4-5 tournaments while also playing in our B team league games. I remain unconvinced when my daughter asks our coach how she can play wing better and is told she is doing great and he doesn’t want her to overthink it. I am disappointed with the experience and treatment at this club and especially frustrated that my daughter developed this past year on her own, in our back yard. We were promised a lot upon joining, expected less, and received less still. This lack of tournament play this weekend isn’t the final straw but is more emblematic of the treatment this team has received all year. I guess I should have expected this but like Charlie Brown running to the football, I thought this time was going to be different and the club was going to do right by our girls. We all know how this ends.
