The truth hurts for most on this message board but when it comes to mattering where you play its BS. A good player can play anywhere. There are numerous stories of great female college players who didnt play at so called elite clubs. So stop trying to live through your kids and brag about which club your kid plays for and how they are soo great. And on the opposite end stop complaining about every club your kid doesnt play on.You crazy Parents need to get your own lives. Soccer is a game thats all nothing more. You are all a bunch of whiny babies.

Kids should be playing all positions (including goalkeeper in the younger ages) up until about u12/u13. A midfielder needs to understand defensive responsibilities and positions. A defender needs to be able to pass the ball and find space to receive the ball. You can only fully learn and understand these qualities if you play the position. Coaches are there to develop players, winning is a by product.

Yes it shouldn't matter - but it does, kinda. Colleges don't have infinite monies for women's soccer coaches to travel the country like basketball and football. So to maximize exposure they 1st go to ECNL showcases then to other major showcases with a sprinkling of local showcases. This is why you won't see many mid west or west coast schools at non ECNL showcases along with the lack of P5 schools. Sure some will go to things like Jeff Cup but those P5 are usually bottom half teams.
That isn't to saw that a player not on an ECNL team can't make it to a P5 school or west coast. It just means the journey is more difficult as the player has to stand out that much more and work to get noticed by the choice school.

A good player can play anywhere but there's a lot that goes into making good players. Who they train with makes a big difference, which is a big motivation to get onto top teams. Quality of the coach and teammates goes a very long way to helping push players in their development. This is not to say only an MLS (boys)/ECNL (girls) club is worth joining. There is also the question of diversity of experience. Playing in the same system forever can be limiting. Its good to experience different philosophies as well.

my D is at an ECNL club. We moved there because we know the coaches are great, not because of the league they play in. I for one HOPE that GA does well and offers a viable alternative. I am not overly concerned with any so-called dilution of talent. I am also not overly optimistic short term but I dont need the validation of my kid playing in the "top" league. If i was a parent of a pro prospect boy I might feel differently but thats not the situation for us.

My daughter plays ECNL for PDA. You guys are kidding yourselves if you think you’d give us anything close to a competitive game.
