    Surf Cup

Who thinks surf cup is going to get cancelled? Numbers really going up in southern Cali 😑.

They, like Crossfire, will hold on as long as possible, but I think anyone considering getting on a plane right now for youth soccer is insane.

At least your self-assessment is accurate then, lol.

Top pros are opting out because too many athletes are testing positive. Surf will be cancelled.

Guess we are insane as well. We are ready for tournaments. Our daughter has been training 8 times a week for the last several months. We are considering sending her out fo state for a while so she can train at full speed and scrimmage the rest of the summer since it's looking not likely going to happen here. Many states are allowing games to be played again.

The number of people testing positive is increasing because more testing is available. Really wished it made the top of the news more that as positive tests have increased the hospitalization of those testing positive is decreasing. Many county's in our state have zero patients in the hospital with covid. People are just not getting very sick with covid anymore for the most part.

If this is serious...then yes, you are certifiably insane.

Just what we all needed -- input from someone who studied epidemiology on Facebook and NextDoor.

Here's a hint -- this isn't on "the top of the news" because it is wrong. The same people shouting this from the rooftops are the same people who in February told you that: (1) the virus would weaken in warm weather ("when we get into April, in the warmer weather—that has a very negative effect on that, and that type of a virus;" and (1) the outbreak would be temporary ("It’s going to disappear. One day it’s like a miracle—it will disappear.").

Actually you are completely wrong, my husband and I are doctors at Harborview and Northwest hospital respectfully and we are seeing a big decrease in the seriousness of the virus in most patients. In march we had to hospitalize about half of the patients coming into the hospitals and we are now sending home around 99% of the patients testing positive with covid-19 to recover at home in the last 6 weeks or so. Most patients are now recovering in 3-5 days versus weeks back in march and April. Also uw medicine has been testing the positive covid-19 swabs from March and April to the positive tests we are seeing now and it is showing us the virus in most cases has lost its strength compared to just a few short months ago. We also have over half the counties in washington with zero patients hospitalized. The virus on a whole is not attacking the respiratory system the same way it was back a few months ago. Do your homework before you spew anymore nonsense.

Someone is protesting a bit too much.

I've done my homework. As someone else on here has said to other trolls, go lick a doorknob.

Was that intended as a response to the person characterizing those advocating for more reopening as armchair epidemiologist or the person saying he/she and her spouse were doctors who had observed a decrease in the severity of cases? Genuinely have no idea since you didn’t use the quote function, and it’s unclear which of those posts might properly be characterizing as trolling (although the posters obviously disagree with one another).

Yeah, like Captain DoorknobLicker (who probably supports Valor when he isn't cosplaying Sons of Anarchy) I'm going to listen to the experts at Harvard and Johns Hopkins who were publicly discussing these exact issues over the past week. Strikes me as far more credible than someone claiming to be a doctor on an anonymous forum for soccer moms, but is spouting Facebook- and Nextdoor-level nonsense.

There are epidemiologists from JHU and Harvard who disagree with epidemiologists from Stanford on these exact issues. There are UW epidemiologists who disagree with one another. The data, currently, is both complicated and all over the map — case counts going up all over the place, but death rates and hospitalization rates going down in many (but not all) places and the average age for positive tests way, way down. Some experts think the virus is becoming less potent, others aren’t yet convinced that’s the case. The economy is a disaster for broad swaths of the country, yet the stock market is relatively meh about the whole thing (maybe it has baked in a projected Trump loss and reflects optimism for the next administration). On the soccer front, everyone seems to agree that outdoor exercise poses little or no threat of transmission, and there has yet to be a case originating in any of the leagues that have opened from on-field activities. As for Surf Cup, I don’t think it’s “insane” to go — I’m cautiously optimistic it will be ok by then (and that XF and wpfc can happen and, more importantly, that kids will be able to go back to school), but fully cognizant of the possibility that won’t be able to happen. It’s entirely possible to think the virus is real and dangerous and that we need to figure out how best to get on with life in a way that mitigates its risks in a reasonable fashion.

                              surf cup

This maybe only a concern for the older players, but if there are fewer college coaches, then why go to surf cup?
