    Showcase Tournaments

Question, and I don't know the answer. There is a large showcase tournament in WA mid July. Will college coaches be able to attend and watch ?

Never a particularly large list of coaches at that tournament to begin with compared to ecnl/da showcases, players, surf. Can’t see too many coaches from out of the area making plans to travel for it this year with budget crunches, uncertain state of reopening, and few out of state teams likely to make the trip. The tournament usually conflicts with a lot of schools’ camps, but this year it won’t because of the extended dead period — that may enable a few coaches to get there who usually don’t.

Still think Crossfire is insane to think they are going to be able to hold a tournament in Mid-July. Maybe a bunch of local teams would be possible, but bringing in teams from other areas, states doesn’t seem responsible.

I realize that some clubs make a lot of money off the summer tournaments. But heaven forbid, if local health concerns and the players were top priorities, they should just start up ECNL/RCL/etc. leagues within two weeks of phase 3, or create a schedule of friendlies during whatever is left of summer (easily financed with summer tournament fees). Get in as many games as possible in case there is a second wave that shuts the season down. With few if any out of state teams at the summer tournaments, everyone will be playing the same old teams anyway. Under the circumstances, bringing hundreds of people to one central location does not seem worth it.

Simple answer... No. Earlier this week the NCAA announced they are extending the dead period through July 31. They are not allowed to watch athletes on or off campus. This is for D1. Not sure about D2. D3 has never had restrictions.

I have never really seen many D1 coaches at this tournament, but certainly this has been a good D3, NAIA, and Junior College event.

Hopefully they will be able to pull this off.
