For those who have had a daughter play/commit to college

Even after years in club soccer, i'm still very much a newbie about how a lot of this works behind the scenes. My daughter is '2023, starting to think casually about college, is attending elite private school and hopes to play for a NESCAC or potentially an Ivy. I've read a lot on here about being realistic and "what really happens" vs what idealistic parents expect re: college. But can anyone tell me some real life stories re: what, if any, kind of merit/financial aid/scholarships money came to them as a result of commit to play soccer? (Assumption is the grades and test scores are good to begin with) I know NESCAC can't provide scholarships for sports per se. Just trying to figure out if there is no money at all that comes from soccer when it's time...thanks all and sorry for my lack of knowledge!

Your kid has to want it, not just be maybe interested. Even a D3 commitment is a commitment/ part time job. She also has to want it enough to be willing to put the work in to be recruited. There are many online resources where student athletes talk about what it's like. Better if you know some college athletes, have her speak with them and ask questions.

As for $ there is no athletic money for Ivies or D3. No merit money either at Ivies, a little at top academics but you're competing with top students for the $; so basically it's only financial assistance based on family income. Ivies are more generous with their income caps, but if you live in pricey New England with a kid in private school chances are you make top much to qualify.

Also consider that Covid is blowing up college financial structures and cost cutting will be the new norm. Soccer should be ok but many schools are cutting some athletic teams.

Nice catch. Definitely a troll hoping to combine a D3 vs. D1 p*ssing contest with a hidden athletic scholarships fight. What a doosh.

It has been blissful the last few months without him. Maybe he was sick with Covid and couldn't post.

Don't sell BTNT short. And no one has a hard-on more than him for the topic of "paying" to play at the disgusting elite NESCACs or Ivies versus a full ride to LIU or Sacred Heart. As far as his trolling skills, no one is better at saying he's been around club soccer forever but has no clue about recruiting. At least this time left out having twins.

When you started out oh those many moons ago, did you think there would be "soccer money" of any type at the end of the rainbow?

And are you suggesting that if are just now finding out that you were duped, that if you had known better you would have kept your kid out of club soccer (and maybe even out of that elite private school)?

Ask the coach what off season training is like. My D had to get up at 5:30 to walk in the cold in Wooster to lift for the subsetter coaching staff. It blows! But the subsetters don’t give ____

For the players I know targeting these kinds of schools, they are using soccer to gain an advantage in admissions and that's pretty much it.
