    Colleges are cutting sports

Unfortunately the wave of cuts is picking up steam, with many schools already cutting or planning to cut sports to save money.

The experts are predicting the trend to continue into the 2021 season. Shame to see but I guess the new reality we’re living in.

Not at all surprising given the budget crunches schools are under now. I think of the sports that don't get large numbers of students to go watch will be the first to go - tennis etc. If you believe that sports bring students together (and generate bigger alumni donations) "smaller" sports don't do that. Soccer should be ok at most schools. A lot schools that aren't big time football schools will cut the number of football scholarships - which helps them be able to cut women's scholarships/teams.

Men’s soccer at Cincy was costing around 2mil per year, pretty good savings there. I wonder how much the local teams Rutgers, Monmouth etc spend on men’s and women’s soccer....

If they were smart, smaller schools would cut football. Programs cost a fortune to run and outside the power 5 conferences, they lose money and don’t draw students. Small schools are better off focusing on a sport like soccer, lax, hockey etc and try and be relevant on a national level.

I agree even Rutgers should cut their football program, they spend a fortune and are awful. Whereas RU women’s soccer is one of the best programs in the country but gets very little funding and recognition. Schiano flies all over the place in his chopper recruiting while soccer has to do it the hard way looking for diamonds in the rough.

The P5 Conferences which Rutgers is part of will not need to cut sports programs. BIG 10 have a very lucrative tv contract and sponsorships for the conference also supplements their income. Rutgers football program makes money regardless of there record.

They get B10 TV revenue, it’s worth it for them, but as a B10 fan from another school, we would all be happy if they just quit 😂

Would save our taxes tremendously. Maybe we would not be #1 in the country for something not sports related....highest real estate taxes.

Here are some sports that aren't getting it done academically so that is why seasons are cut:

                      Grades matter.

Continuing....As these are sec/southern schools, there are others from different regions that also did not cut it academically.

While I somewhat agree.....Rutgers soccer does not have a hard time recruiting from it's own stable of youth players at PDA.

Finally NCAA is doing something that should happen heretofore...."For the first time,"...it is distributing funds to schools that do well academically across all its sports.

So performance in the classroom matters for NCAA too finally.
