We have to get kids back to playing sports again

"The return to class may well begin today, young people who are just waiting to resume their sports activities are still bathing in nothingness. Nothing indicates to them when they will be able to reconnect with their passions, essential to their physical and mental well-being, insist specialists, who judge that the revival of the sport "begins to press"."

A study by the University of Quebec in Outaouais revealed, last week, that a third of young people have suffered some form of distress since confinement. The sports community is not immune to these difficulties, confirms psycho-educator in mental preparation Alain Vigneault.

"We don't yet know how we're going to get back. It's a gray area. There are impatient, anxious athletes. Some are afraid of missing their season, ”said the one who meets young athletes as well as professional and Olympic athletes.

    Depressed

“Young athletes are basically adolescents. They find themselves deprived of a passion, confined to their home. There are cases of young athletes where sport is the only place in their life where they are well, ”said Sylvain Croteau, director general of Sport'Aide, an organization dedicated to helping the psychological health of athletes.

For Sylvain Guimond, doctor in sport psychology, the resumption of sport "begins to squeeze" from a mental health point of view, especially for athletes, but also for amateurs.

"We can protect physical health, but our society must not fall into an excess of depression," argues Mr. Guimond.

We would have been back by now if we didn't have a child running the country.

A child that believes physical education is bad for your health!

What’s puzzling is no bailout package yet for the youth soccer industry?? I guess these guys in DC don’t care about the blue collar families.

Couldn't be more true. Everyone complaining about pay to play when most of our money is going to leagues and tournaments. League executives making six figures will never stepping on the field to develop beside handing out medals.

Not sure what you mean by that and how you define “blue collar”??? Soccer is the most blue collar, sport in the world all you need is a ball and a dirt field and that’s it....very affordable.

I concur, my daughter is an extrovert and this last 2 months coming off a busy sports winter has been a very bizarre experience. Other means of communicating electronically stopped, it’s not the same. Kids need physical interaction, need to feel competition and being part of a team, rather than video conferences on zoom!

I highly recommend watching Andres Iniesta: The Unexpected Hero.

There was a segment following when he scored the goal against Chelsea in the 2009 champions league final where after being on such an incredible high, he struggled with mental health issues because he couldn’t cope with normalcy anymore and became very isolated until her got help.

Definitely agree. Hopefully can get them back by fall. Need a few more months to be sure it’s safe. Still a little too much uncertainty out there.

We need to get our kids back to playing ASAP. Enough of this communist lockdown. We know the young are safe and youth soccer is so important for so many. Trainers and their families are suffering and need our help to get back on their feet.

Speaking of communists, how are they doing in CHINA and RUSSIA. Do you think they will be back to playing soccer anytime soon? Sounds like your ready to strap on your AK47 and head down to Trenton and get rid of those communists that are infringing your Liberty because your an expert who knows for a fact that the young are safe and the one thing that will make everyone happy is youth soccer. You seriously need to get out of your basement and see the outdoors, okay?

Sorry pal but I don’t think China and Russia share our values when it comes to youth sports, it’s part of the fabric of this country and needs to be reinstated ASAP. Let the kids be free!

Here is a news flash for you....Russia ceased to be a communist country when the USSR dissolved in 1991. So Russia has not been a communist country since 1991. Some other news you might have missed: Boston Red Sox finally broke the drought and won the World Series in 2004 and won 3 more after that, Bruce Jenner is now Kaitlyn Jenner and it was not just a change of name, red M&Ms are back, and it turns out that Doogie really didn't have the hots for Wanda. I hope that you are caught up now.

That brings up a good point, how would doogie handle this virus situation being a child but also a front line worker.
