Both LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes are completely closing down their highly successful girls programs (even winning DA Natl Championships) as it is no longer lucrative to be operating them. Unfortunately seeing successful professional organizations close their programs make me worried about the future. And NY Cosmos just closed their boys academy, sad times we’re living in.

Things are about to get much more local. The idea that we need national travel or even huge regional leagues is crazy. If all the best players returned to town based teams we would all be perfectly fine and we would save a lot of money as well.

B. LA Galaxy and SJEQ had some stellar teams not to mention LA Galaxy GDA teams were funded by the MLS club.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostThe response to A is why this model doesn't work in the US. Is not slavery because the Clubs invest in players and players sign a contract when they join agreeing to go to the club that signs the player. The club is making an investment and is expecting a return on that investment. You can't have it both ways, either pay for quality training or offer a return on investment. People who complain about the money being spent in travel soccer should play with a town team where Molly's dad is the coach.
