USSF to announce switch to Graduation Year age groups?

Rumor that USSF will be mandating a switch to graduation year age groups now that teams are all on a break and can restart in a better system which aligns with college recruiting.

As annoying as it would be to make a bunch of kids have to change a second time in their youth years, it would be the right thing to do.

With the current lockdown, changing back to birth year now would be problematic with tryouts and reforming teams.

You can always count on the US Soccer to do the right thing ... after they have tried everything else.

Dumbest thing USSF ever did. They are great at screwing everyone involved in US soccer.

DA is dead so now there's nothing to stop it going back to school year. There will already be a ton of upheaval this year so adding another element won't really matter and at least this one makes sense - they need to try and keep as many players playing as they can and the calendar year has had a negative impact at the lower levels of youth soccer.

I don’t care if they do it or not, but if they were to do it, now would be the time. It’s going to be crazy enough so you might as well do it if they feel it makes sense to improve US youth soccer at every level.

Hasn’t youth soccer enrollment gone down since the move was made at lower levels? If true, seriously worth considering.

This would be the year to do it. With DA gone, ECNL and NPL rosters will be changing. Add the age group switch in and rosters would be greatly shaken up. In many ways this would be easier for kids than thinking they were bumped off their existing team. There is no existing team- every team is significantly changed. If anything good can come out of this terrible spring, it would be a return to playing with kids in your grade.

Just curious, will the age group system switch back to grad year for the upcoming 2020/2021 season?

This is definitely the time to go to school grade teams to keep as much market share going forward as possible. USSF could deliver some good news with the bad helping with image and relevancy also!

I can't imagine the USSF is going to be in a position to mandate anything to the clubs.
