    Nefc 2010

    Hi,

I am looking for feedback on NEFC. We live on the south shore and are currently playing at a different club. Haven't really loved the direction current club has gone in so wondering if NEFC might be a better fit. Do they have set teams or a pool? Consistent practice times? Do they allow missing occasionally if a lid plays other sports?

    Thanks.

NEFC and South Shore Select are the two clubs I have been following since we live in Taunton area. I am seeing more and more parents from MA and RI heading to NEFC and happy with them. I know there are many NEFC teams just like there are many GPS, FC Stars, and Liverpool teams so it can be confusing knowing where you are going to land and which place you will practice. For example you could end up at NEFC Central where practices are in Mendon. Or you could be on the NEFC RI team and practice at the Wheeler field. And then there are many other locations. It all depends on which Region you live closest too. I would start attending practices and talk to the coaches and parents. No matter which club you are with it all comes down to the coach you get.

NEFC SS practices out of Union Point, very consistent practices and great training. Usually only 1 team per age group so no pools, love the coaches.

FCUSA Boston’s top 2010 girls team is very good. They practice out of Canton in the spring and fall. Winter practices can vary but are all centrally located. Coaches are great.

I give you credit, that was one of the more clever things I've read on this board.

The grass is not always greener on the other side..

What direction has your club taken that would make you feel so eager to leave?

                          What I see:

                          1) NEFC SS recruit great players so they are competitive
                          2) their training is repetitious,
                          3) they play younger players up.
                          4) they care about winning at younger age groups
                          5) bright red or blue uniforms
                          6) enthusiastic coaches,

Because of the above.. they are very appealing to parents.

Side note, at the younger ages they often take their "elite players" to games in lower divisions and tournaments just to ensure wins + trophies. This is how they gain notoriety and recruit so well. So I do think your child will have opportunity to play with good players. However, your main concern should be is that enough? playing with other good players.. Or do you want a great coach who is knowledgable in child development and not just enthusiastic. So I can't really answer this because I do not know your club but you have to try and decide whether NEFC can develop players better than other clubs...?? in particular yours?? hmmm...

What club is the best at developing players starting at the u10 age groups.. ? What coaches out there have the best capabilities to develop players around SS? That is where I would want my children.

Not questioning your observations, but I do wonder: Why do parents think #3 is particularly important?

Also, how do you see that fitting with #4? If you care about winning, don't you avoid placing younger players "up" unless they help, rather than hinder, the team's W-L record?

When you play younger players with year round training up against an older new inexperienced team of new but older players becoming competitive you do win #4 which gives you the win an you can brag that you beat an older team. But that’s not good. That’s no competition and not good soccer. It also puts young players at risk of getting hurt going up against taller kids.
