TBU developed only 1 player from U-8 to now U-14 DA. Nothing to proud of !!!

Look no club develops a player by them self, it is the player who takes the initiative to train on his own and to work hard and then train some more. TBU is the next stage in the progression. Most of the above average players come from other clubs and they have been at it a long time to get to the point of going to a club like TBU. It is not that the other club developed them because basically all clubs do the same type of drills and the same type of competition. What it boils down to is the desire in the player to get better to train on their own and to move on. You cant turn every child into a development player, you can only work with what you got. TBU has put themselves in the position to attract the great players, because of the programming they offer. Great players tend to develop on their own with great individual training. Dont hate on a club, go and train your child, push them to get better, it is the great ones that do what your not doing to get into the position they are in.Comment

I agree with this mostly. But there are definitely clubs out there where kids get little technical training, play with/against kids well below their athleticism and barely develop despite some initiative. At our club, we had a boy come over who's a very good athlete and has played competitive for years at another smallish club in the area. I was shocked at his bad habits and lack of some basic footskills. In 3 months with my kid's coach, he's now keeping up with the team and being able to play against some good opponents. On his old squad, he was just bigger/faster than his peers so he could get away with bad habits. Now in training, if he misses trapping the ball, he loses it.
Once we get him up to snuff, he'll probably tryout for TBU's DA :)

Assuming all the things you said are true. Why are club like tbu claiming they are developing player? What are parents paying tbu for? The number one reason parents go to tbu is because the leagues. Some clubs provide a better platform for player development because they give them better competition in training, access to better leagues and, yes, better coaching. The coaching at TBU is hit and miss, but there are a few very good ones that won't let your kid get away with bad habits without correction. Having said that, kids can develop at other clubs too and the bigger clubs collect them at the older ages which creates more competition for roster spots on their top teams. If it's true that only 1 player in their u14 DA played at TBU before coming over, that doesn't speak very well for the club, but is that actually true? I kind of doubt it, but i also don't have a kid at that club or on that team so who knows.
What I can say from observation is Strictly plays kickball and bunker-style... so if a player develops there, it's on their own.

ECNL and DA are the EPL of youth soccer. All the other leagues are merely MLS. Does that mean every player in ECNL or DA is on the level? Absolutely not. But those leagues are the only platform to compete against the best, not only in games but in practice. You are playing there for the ability to see ( play against the better competition) AND be seen ( The college signings list speaks for itself ) very few if any players start with a club and finish there as well. If you are at TBU and playing the highest level than you have a goal to play in college or above. If your in it for fun and fitness than there are plenty of other options and leagues around. Speaking from experience there is no better club in the region for exposure than TBU!Comment
