    ODP-Club Collaboration

Ignoring the fact that ODP sucks and it isn’t a shadow of what it used to be, which I’m sure many of the replies will say anyway, how is the communication and collaboration between the ODP administration and USYS clubs in MA?

It’s horrible. Our club seemingly works out their practice schedule to intentionally conflict with ODP. It’s too bad, because ODP is a great program that focuses exclusively on player development. The clubs are more conflicted because they need to win to keep their parents happy.

There is no communication as far as I know

Just as applicable a question, how good is the communication between the clubs and their families within them? Listen if the clubs aren't feeding back information about the player to their parents in the first place, what does it actually matter what ODP does or doesn't communicate to them?

Many clubs discourage ODP participation - they want you all to themselves - so wy would they make an effort to coordinate/cooperate?

Bingo and a lot of what you read here on this site is part of that campaign to discourage it

Clubs are greedy. Controlling players == $$$

If your player is good enough to make ODP in MA then you should do it. Seven MA girls were picked for ODP Region 1 pool training. They are all great players, most playing at pre DA, ECNL, or top NPL teams.

Waste of money if you are an ECNL player.

If you are finding value in it, then your ECNL club isn't doing their job.

Clubs are also afraid that they will lose their players to other clubs through ODP. Having kids training together for months who are from different clubs, while great for the kids, also opens their eyes to what else is out there. Parents talk to each during trainings and then you get kids trying out for each others teams.

My daughter loves her experience with R1 and ODP. Region 1 team as a whole has lots of ECNL clubs represented.

That's pretty damning for ECNL then. Charge that much money, that much commitment, and you need to go elsewhere to fulfill your soccer needs?

                      Sad.

ODP isn't interested in being friendly to clubs either.

True. A good club will meet the needs of its players. Players shouldn’t need to be shlepping to ODP practices to supplement subpar training and development at their club.

ODP and DA are the same product only DA is the favorite flavor at the moment.

I don't think DA and ODP is allowed, so maybe. We never have any issues with ODP when club commitments conflict.
