    Interesting article - https://www.espn.com/soccer/

The problem is not the players. It’s the system that produced these players namely the USSDA and MLS. Best players in the MLS are designated players (foreign players). Look at the USSDA system, it is disjointed no style of play. Coach wants possession and playing out of the back and players can’t due to many technical and tactical deficiencies. Look at European teams, many grew up in their national system and can perform because of familiarity and understanding of what is expected. Noticeably, lack of speed of play and execution are problematic with the current meshed of MLS and euro-based players. Until there is a system in place all NT players should be encouraged to go overseas.

America is at least a generation away from having the soccer culture necessary for any of these conversations about the federation and what a disaster it is to be meaningful.

      They are not wanted.
      It is the players.
We have had foreign coaches for years.
Maybe if our kids watched a match once in a while...

It's not the kids. Our women are the best in the world and can play technical, possession soccer as well as more direct play. It's also a slower speed of play than the men's side, and many of those female players have played and trained with men's side in their youth.

What is the excuse on the men's side? The OP is correct: poor speed of play and poor technical qualities. The hallmark of the US system on the men's side. You think the players couldn't learn at the younger ages? It's the coaches and their systems of play and selection.

What style of play is prevalent in MLS? How about college? High School? From U14-U21, what is the most common style of play coaches are using? We drop off considerably because of coaching, style of play and selection from U15+.

This is exactly right. You watch videos of Pulisic at U12-U14 ages and, yes, he is an amazing player, but he's not a rare exception. There are many players across the US with similar ability at those ages, with highly intelligent, technical, creative play. Unfortunately, these players rarely receive the opportunity to prove themselves at the highest levels, since the U14-U16 YNT program has a completely different focus, often choosing players who are playing up at their DA clubs (generally early developers who can compete physically with older players who are developing muscle mass during these years). Luckily, Pulisic was one of those rare smaller, technical players chosen for the YNT, which gave him a chance to be seen by Dortmund at a young enough age to make a difference on his development. The rest is history (plus, a lot of hard work Pulisic's part). You wonder where such a player would be if he had instead signed an MLS contract (most likely sitting on the bench or being loaned out to USL) or worse, if he had gone to college first (most likely not playing at all anymore).

We had more success a generation ago.

The women are the best in the world because the women's programs in just about every other country in the world are terrible. Most of the world doesn't care about women's sports.

Parents care more about the wrong things than the players care about the right things. I don't know think it was always that way, but that's where we are for now.

Lets look at our local pro team and it’s academy program. Every talented players that have gone through the Revs Academy either turn into robot or gotten kick of the teams. There are no culture of player development or an environment that nurture players. Hopefully, BA can institute some system that support the players.

                    Why the drop off?
Because our system is based on results.
We have had the coaches and programs-they just don’t survive.
                    Why?
Because our system is based on results.
Entire threads are based on who beats whom.
Until threads are devoted to style of play, and kids gravitate to those programs, it will never change

And we need not elevate coaches based on results
