the fix for us soccer, thoughts

here is how I think us soccer should be fixed. one of the problems is that we don't have any infrastructure to identify top youth talent to develop and move through the ranks. look at sports like football and basketball, they use a system to ID kids to move into special programs or college. football, for example, uses the school system, an infrastructure that is already in place. So why not use the same system for soccer. get rid of the clubs and rec. use varsity and jv. if DA academies can self fund, or US soccer can support schools, bring in top coaches to the schools, you would have unlimited use of facilities, gyms, weight rooms and class rooms. you would have access to all the kids in the area. the cost for a kid to play soccer would be no more than 100 to 200 a year! have the schools hire the top coaches, and give them access to facilities for camps in summer to make better money. there are more that you could do, but this system would allow two things to happen, 1. colleges would have an easier time to recruit players. 2. no kid would be left behind in the ID process to be moved into the ODP or national pool training. this would also get rid of the politics in soccer. what are your thoughts? there has to be a fix to the US system. just taking a shot. what are the downfalls of this?

Football doesn’t require skill. It is closer to track. That is why you can have 12 game seasons. Basketball would be more similar. The only thing keeping basketball at a decent level is AAU. High School sucks. Your fix would set us back to zero.

yeah, HS is not the answer. U can't be seriously proposing high school as the salvation of us soccer?

This is perhaps the worse idea I’ve seen proposed.

Seriously, who is going to teach kids soccer across the US education system? why should soccer get more attention than other sports? Ever try teaching kids a sport they have no interest in participating in - which is basically half of any gym class?

I'd love to see ODP brought back in meaningful way - with real money behind it, much more training at a much lower cost to players, actual coaches who can coach and have zero club ties, much broader availability. But school, no. Just no. Zero school involvement other than middle and high schools having teams. Maybe teach it in gym class as part of a broader sports curriculum (and kids don't get enough physical activity as it is).

A rating system would be helpful. Have the players run speed tests, jumping tests, soccer drills, shooting, and give them scores. Could help in recruiting. High school is not the answer. At many schools the kids can't make varsity and as a junior give up playing school soccer.

Freshmen and Sophomores should not be making Varsity teams and maybe invite the JV players to come roster for the varsity team as a need arises.

You cannot do "speed tests" and "jumping tests" and have the slightest idea about a player.

If you're going to score a player, most scouts use a 1-5 or 1-4 scoring system while a player is competing and divide the analysis in technical/tactical/physical attributes. Some add a mental attributes section.

This is not the NFL. You cannot do a combine for these type of athletic measurables for soccer.

Look at the girls for the answer. The problem is simple and cultural—US kids aren’t playing in the streets as in other successful soccer countries. The reason for the girls’ success is more girls play youth soccer in the US than other countries.

Something could be developed as a good predictor.

Scouts use a rating system. Rate then in game settings.

                            Idiots

                            Listen fags.

What we lack in the US isn't the ID mechanisms...it's the mentality. Typical middle class american perspective.

World class, top league professionals aren't identified out of money grubbing cash clubs, or high school, or college.

These kids are identified early, then their parents submit to the cultural norms...turning your kid ocre to a corporate football youth academy at 13 where they train 6 days a week, 10 hours a day. Eat, sleep, jerkoff...all locked down. If they're any good...we see glimpses of the future Barcelona, Ajax, Real Madrid stars when they're brought on at 16 years old.

Are you going to send your son to do this? You see him twice a year, and here's the kicker...if he's not good enough, gets injured, or mentally can't take it or gets in trouble...they just send them back to you...no contract, nothing.

We lack the cultural intestinal fortitude to do what it takes to create Zlatans, Messi, and Ronaldo...

The freaks running US soccer know this. They're content getting wealthy on garbage soccer...do you even know how much the US Soccer Federation makes sucking? Enough to continue the tradition.

There's no other option, start a cult, buy a van and begin a 13 year old boys commune and work them until they drop. At 16 years old, after 1,086 days of training...they'll be ready.
