Why are Stars teams just not as good as they were?

    Interested to hear your thoughts. You used to see the stars at the top of the ECNL standings across the board no matter the age group, by U13/U14 they had the best kids. What has happened to the once powerhouse? I took a look at the standings yesterday and this is what I saw;

    U13 Blue - 2W 3L
    U13 White - 1W 3L 1T
    U14 Blue - 3W 2L (lost to Scorpions 5-2)
    U14 White - 1W 2L 2T

I am sure we will get the Stars staff with an excuse or 2 but it never used to be like this. They are not feared as they once were. Greed taking over? Why is the talent not flocking there anymore? Staff?

Is it the two-team scenario? i.e. not good enough for two with one excelling, but decent enough to support two? Is that a bad thing?

Arrogance is tolerated when you have great coaching - JD is a great coach, but hard and arrogant

Others like JB are arrogant and terrible. That is causing the down turn.

What makes JD a great coach and then JB a terrible coach?

Competition dilutes everything. You have to define what you mean by good as well. Im sure Stars will continue to have kids go on to good schools .

JD will actually teach the players something
JB will blame their talent if they don't win

Ask JD! He will tell you that JB has done a terrible job with some teams.

JD runs the best soccer practice out of all the stars coaches. He is not the best game coach. During games he is much more pre planned subbing no matter what's going on etc. But, best practice. Haven't had JB but I know people who like playing for him.

I don't know the answer and I've been wondering myself a bit as well.

The two teams at the same level is a bit weird but not the cause. I think it is that they got a taste of being good and now the coaches are obsessed with winning. They pull kids the second those kids make a mistake and so the kids have learned to be overly cautious and never do anything bold or creative. Hard to win against that.

I do think that the 05s and 04s were also just more talented than the 06s and 07s. (said as an 06 parent). before they split into birth year my kid played with a bunch of 05s and they were better than anyone else on the team. strong group.

I do.When they were starting out it was about soccer and developing to show people what happens when you played them. Now it’s money and market share they are too big and too diluted.Like all clubs now.

Everything is cyclical. Look at Scorpions. 10 years ago they were dominant, producing some serious D1, YNT & NT talent. Things went sideways and the club suffered. Now they are on the rise again. Very few clubs stay on top for long periods of time.

It’s no different for FC Stars. Programs ebb & flow, but they will be fine in the long haul.

I really, really don't want to start another DA discussion, but also realize I'm opening this can of worms.... * sigh * .... anyway....for those who question the sub rules in DA, this is the exact reason why.
