We noticed early this fall that our players team's competition were all in the same ballpark. We assume that gotsoccer points help with placement. However, we also noticed that there is one team that is way above the others & frankly was in a higher division last year. We believe this team was not demoted to this level this fall due to an unfavorable record because they finished high last year. Basically our question is who makes the decision where to place teams with respect to competition. There must be a committee, of club personnel? If this is the case, is it possible that certain clubs have more say in making decisions?

Clubs provide the most feedback, and if you look at all the clubs in all the leagues where it can fluctuate, they actually do a pretty good job. Not saying it's perfect, but it's pretty good.
It doesn't do a club any good to put a great team in a bad league, or vice versa.
What happens in the outlier cases often is a team is good one year, and bad the next. So, they are in over their head unintentionally. This happened mostly when teams go from 7v7 to 9v9, or 9v9 to 11v11.
Lots of changes there and good teams at younger ages rarely remain that way later on.

I wouldn't assume this was done intentionally. Could be that the coach knew a few of the best players were moving up a level, or moving to a different club, and thought the loss would have a bigger impact than it did (or they might have picked up a good player or two over the summer). Most coaches do their best to place the team appropriately, and it usually works out pretty well. Now and then, a mistake is made, but usually is corrected for the spring season.

Placement depends on a few aspects. One is gotsoccer points/team records and another is coach relationship with the event organizer. If your team is ranked 35 in MA your odds of being a top group are very slim.

Again, we find it odd that every year there is at least one team that is obviously in the wrong division/level. 10-0 is not the correct placement. And we wonder if there are checks & balances in place to avoid monopolies. Op here, who makes the final call? All coaches, some select coaches? A committe of coaches?
Got soccer rankings are suspect there's another website that's better IMO, although I'm sure it has the same flaw. its youthsoccerrankings.com. Less importance on tourny points just H2H competition results are factored in some computer model
