    Rapinoe: it's all about me

Back when Kapernick and others knelt during the national anthem, Rapinoe knelt as well. This year, Kapernick's protest is nowhere to be found, so Rapinoe has stood during the national anthem. Since the 2019 World Cup started, all US players except Rapinoe have put their hands over their hearts, and showed respect for our flag and country when the national anthem has been played. Rapinoe, however, stands with her hands at her sides, just to ensure that everyone knows just what she thinks of the USA.

The World Cup is not about Rapinoe's political views or her vendetta with Donald Trump or whatever beef she has with whom. She is a disgrace to our country by singularly "protesting" against the USA on the world stage. She represents the USA when she competes in the World Cup, and should keep her personal agenda du jour off camera.

Rapinoe is a disgrace. If she were on my team I would be steaming at the disrespect she shows towards this great country we live in. Have some respect please

There is no doubt that she loves her country as much as you or I.

The problem is that you see your country in a much narrower perspective than she does. Her comments on why she chooses not to sing are well documented and certainly rational to her. These actions are founded in her belief in the kind of nation we should be and her resentment to elements of our government that she believes excludes those beliefs.

She works as hard as any player has to give her nation her best efforts. And she remains true to herself and the things she believes in. Isn't that what we expect from ourselves as n Americans?

You may not share her beliefs. I don't share all of them. But I respect her right to have them, to demonstrate them in her own way and to play her ass off for the USA. And she does.

i find it ironic that she protests against the country whose name is on the front of her jersey
she doesnt see the country more broadly she sees the country as narrow single issues- i respect her right to have these views in her private life but when she represents the US she should act accordingly
that being said she is a great player who does work her ass off on the field but I dont mind when she gets fouled hard every now and then

She’s an idiot and so are you. She plays for the country, not Trump. The same country that has afforded a moron like her the opportunity to make a living representing it and playing a game. If she really was sincere in her beliefs, she would have followed the lead of the young lady from Norway and chosen not to play. She didn’t do that because she is a selfish person who is all about herself. I look forward to the time when she retires and is irrelevant for the rest of her life. At that point, I’m certain she will wish she had handled things differently and used her short lived fame for good instead of detracting from what she and her teammates accomplished.

She should go play for Pakistan, Iran or Iraq.
