    Team USA.

US U 20 loses to Ecuador!!!! LOL DA really working.

We need to go back to ODP style format. Our best finish as a country in U-20 was in 1989.

They also beat tournament favorite France. This guy has no idea what is going on. More and more American players are playing abroad at a young age. We have a good core of up and coming talent. Take a look at what the sounders academy is accomplishing and what teams they are consistently beating (West Ham, Valencia, Flamengo, Man U, and more).

Lol you are letting someone stir you up and for all you know, he is on your side.

However, the 89 team did in fact make the semis, pre-MLS/DA.

        Progress indeed.

The U20 team looked awful today. No creativity. No joy. Late in the game they just booted it long. No discipline.

          Embarrassing.

Not until they consistently win can anyone even begin to claim we're making progress. They haven't done that yet. Then they have to move that success into the older teams.

They looked awful. Ecuador appeared the much better coached team.

Nobody from the US looked like they were having fun.

They sure didn’t look very good.

I’ve seen better late game poise in U13 games.

                  Is it coaching that’s bad?

The DA program takes out the all important winning mentality. It strips out the feisty tournaments and trophies that teach kids resiliency and how to win. It takes away all the fun. The leadership and coaching leave a lot to be desired.

The competition seems to be against each other for playing time and they don’t seem to have any team unity.

Sounds more like an ECNL troll than a "farmers leaguer"; US Club has an institutional interest in attacking US Soccer and the whole DA program. At any rate since little DA is no longer, we'll see who is the best in the state next year.

But the soccer reactionaries sure want to turn the clock back to 1994, don't they, back when the US could get out of the group stage by parking the bus for 90 minutes each game? Quite a few club coaches and DoCs out there, butthurt that their neighborhood outfits no longer have the prestige they once did, wishing the DA would go away, and thus rooting against the national team. Overall, the US U20s had a good World Cup. They went 3-2, knocking off two good teams, reaching the quarters, and beating the tournament favorite, and neither of their losses were to a minnow.

But more importantly, they generally played good, technical soccer. This wasn't one of the bunker-and-counter teams of yesteryear, that would overwhelm weaker teams with pace and fitness, and get picked apart when they played anyone any good. The U20s have lots of players who are technically strong on the ball, who can move it well on the ground, and take on and beat defenders. If anything was suspect on this squad, it was the back line, who frequently failed to mark attackers (both goals conceded against Ecuador were on missiles fired from outside the box by players who had eluded their markers; one went in the top corner directly, the other hit the bar and Ecuador scored on the rebound).

The nonsense about "DA doesn't keep standings so the kids don't know how to win" is complete rot, which you would know if you followed the boys 05 thread. Kids, coaches, and families all know the score, and they all want to win. The kids most of all--a lot of "boot it long" pressure doesn't come from the sideline but from teammates, who learn early on that keeping the ball for very long in the defensive third is dangerous, especially if most of the team is in front of the ball.

Girls US Club ecnl showcase format has admitted as much, all the best to them. They built their foundation and cattle model on the abundance of title ix athletic aid that has flowed to the outlier collegiate sport of women's soccer. Now trapped in this hole, they keep digging deeper.

At this time the USWNT has all core players that came from USYS, ODP, HS, collegiate and pro structure. The next World Cup will feature the products of the ecnl, bye, bye USA.

                        What costly travel mistake.

Scrutinizing the return on top-down, massive national programs = common sense.

Your sarcasm is hilarious! Watching this Venezuela game hits home at the weaknesses of the DA.

Keep it up - good material!
