To answer the OP's question, my kids play because they enjoy it. And we're not deluded into thinking we're pursuing a scholarship. At times, they have been on the fence about playing, but always decide its something they want to do because it's more fun than not playing. I don't know if it makes sense to force a kid to do it...never seems to work out from what I've seen.Comment

My kid plays not because she wants to but because I want her to. She's getting a scholarship to a D1 school and she has to keep play to get the scholie. Also, her success has a direct influence on my ego.Comment
