Does the Federation even care any more? Or was this a Gulati/Klinsmann thing that the current regime doesn't give a FF about?

They've never cared about women's soccer which is why they never started GDA when they started BDA. GDA was partly a knee jerk reaction to the WNT suing USSF for equal treatment (really bad PR). ECNL was flawed and there were issues to be addressed, but GDA as has been implemented was not a way to address those issues. Right now USSF is too busy trying to keep MLS clubs from dropping out of BDA and GDA is on life support. They just haven't turned off the power yet to the respirator.

Good club making S. Cal ECNL stronger. The NW ECNL will have PacNW, Crossfire Premier and Eastside FC. Who's next? United PDX or WT_FC? Tell me how this makes the case for anything "elite"? On the contrary, GDA purges the worst of the worst and if a player in Seattle wants to play at an "elite" level, will it drive them to GDA?

Huh? Eagles may not be ripping it up in GDA, but Slammers, Hawks, and Crossfire were major losses for GDA. That isn't purging worst of the worst.

The fact that PDX only has two ECNL clubs make us stronger. Hope it stays like this.

I wonder if the thorns would get accepted in ECNL. They don't really have a track record to speak of yet. I still think that is their best bet.

Not just PDA, but FC Stars of MA as well. As for NYCFC, they are sharing a training facility with World Class and all of the NYCFC DA players will roll into World Class' ECNL program.

GDA in the north east is in bad shape.

Northwest lost the best clubs. SoCal appears to be moving out.

As fun as all this bickering is, there’s one indisputable fact. With all of these top clubs leaving for ECNL, GDA no longer has its strongest selling point - join a DA club if you want a chance to be rostered on a national team. There is no way US Soccer can maintain a shred of credibility if they only pull national team players from GDA clubs.

This is something that has been blasted from the rooftops in the last few national team rollouts (“20 out of 22 players come from girls developmental academy clubs,” for example). Those days are gone forever. Not that this affects 99.99% of us. But it’s been a huge point of emphasis in GDA advertising.
