MLS club NYCFC leave girls DA

Following Crossfire and Eastside (technically not in GDA, but a partner of Reign) NYCFC is now All-in ECNL: https://www.nycfc.com/post/2019/03/1...-girls-academy

NYCFC teams are ranked 1st in the conference, another big hit to the GDA.

Girls DA in the northeast is dead. Sol Cal and Texas are the only conferences that can compete with ECNL. What a disaster the implementation of the girls DA.

NW is sucking wind as well, especially now with another departure. USSF had one chance to get it right. They haven't.

NYCFC teams are ranked 1st in the conference, another big hit to the GDA.
New York City FC and World Class FC are pleased to announce the formation of a new strategic partnership to create the NYCFC / World Class FC Girls Youth Academy commencing with the 2019/20 season.

NYCFC and World Class FC will combine resources to form one program and compete exclusively in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) across the U-12 to U-19 age groups. This new direction will expand the Academy’s number of teams.

The teams will train and play at the World Class FC facility in Orangeburg, NY directly across the street from Etihad City Football Academy in NY.

Current players in the Academy system have represented the United States, England, Haiti, Ireland and Uruguay youth national teams while playing for either NYCFC or World Class FC.

Both Clubs are committed to identifying and developing the best local youth soccer players in the New York Metropolitan area and this partnership creates a competitive pathway to the highest levels of the game for local girls.

Just shows that US Soccer is clueless about youth soccer (boys and girls) in America. US Soccer did such a horrible job with rolling out GDA...

Totally agree, and they seem less interested in fixing the problems.

They will not fix it and be proactive...They will just let it unfold and in 10 years it will finally take shape.

USSF definitely botched the roll out of GDA, but I disagree that they aren’t trying to fix it.

They already broke up the combined age groups for next year. Why did they do that? Did they do that because it’s better / more competitive (obviously not)? No, they did that for the clubs, so they can have more teams and make more money. It’s always about money with the clubs.

If you don’t think one of the main reasons the clubs and coaches like ECNL is the HS break when they practice way less and coach / train way less while basically making the same amount of money...you are very naive.

I am far from naive. With that said. I agree, the break up of the age group is a step in the right direction. They have to compete with ECNL and make the program more attractive. Blocking players from playing HS is not going to make it attractive. I understand their mindset of why the think this needs to be done, but it does not make it more attractive. The "waiver" is a copout, it either needs to be all or none. Maybe, leave it up to the cubs discretion if player can participate in HS soccer.

ENCL is a better pathway to Girls soccer around the country. They have it right. Maybe 10-15 years down the road GDA finds new ways to attract better talent to join them. As it is the girls soccer is far better than the men. More college exposure and more talent. Men soccer is far away to even reaching a plateau. Maybe 15-20 years down the road will US soccer even be considered a force, for now we are rec soccer compared to other nations.

We will continue to be 3-4 tier teams compared to the rest of the world. So for now lets keep spending money to make owners and clubs more profitable.

ECNL has a 10 year head start. Of course, it will be the better pathway right now.

There is reason also to believe that the boys ECNL will continue to grow and be also a better pathway with years to come, maybe 2 more years. As many players going to DA, there are alot of players leaving DA around the nation.

US Men soccer have a long way to go if they want to be considered seriously, and here in South Florida, to many politics and more about money than developing and signing the nest big thing. Texas and California will always be first.

I agree on the HS soccer component. I understand why USSF sees little value in it. The training and quality is all over the lot. I’m sure there are some quality programs out there, but that is far from the norm. However, HS soccer is important to some players and parents.

Honestly, that’s the main reason ECNL is still in the fight for market share. The league itself isn’t more organized, cheaper, or more competitive (I understand that this is debatable, but let’s not act like it’s head and tails better right now).

If USSF don’t want players playing both at the same time because they are worried about over training or injury...fine, just realese players from rosters during HS season and let them return when it’s over. Done.

This is the most logical thing I have read on this site in a long time.

College football embraced high school football years ago and they partner in its success. USSF can do the same with soccer. Very simple fix.
