    US Soccer Rant

DA is the place to be if you are a male soccer player who wants D1-D2 college. But lets be honest the system is watered down. This was created to find national team players. and sure most of the youth national teams come from DA but this is how they sell the pay to play for the non MLS academies. I have been around DA for a few years now and I can promise you there is not 75 teams of elite players in this country. This being said we stay in the program for the exposure. MLS should run its own program recruiting the top players they can and the rest should be put in a second level program feeding into MLS and US Soccer. In other words kids that are actually on a pro path and national team path all the others should Fall back to ECNL or Developmental league without the US in front of it. Lets face it even our colleges don't fill roster spots with US kids. MLS is a joke because we hunt for retired EPL, La Liga and Bundesliga pros to sell tickets. if the american system was working we would be filling roster spots with the american Messi's and Ronaldo's. American talent is out there and growing but come on 70+ teams at every age group. If US Soccer is serious about finding, training, and putting the best kids on the national team they should have a fully funded program. There is no way the kids are scouted properly and to be honest the same political crap still happens. Just as an example Weston and all the blowhards down there with the dirty knees when Marcelo was feeding US Camps. Will US Soccer ever be great? Maybe! Will we produce a 1%er sure we will one day. Is it Pulisic, Adams, or sargent. I don't think so. But we cant even keep them in the US. Ok my rant is over have a great week

Great point and I agree completely that there is many players playing U15, U17 DA that are nothing special.

When Inter Miami starts their academy next season we will see how many actual kids are taken from Weston, Kendall and Boca. That will show the point you are trying to get across.

      Looking forwards to it !!!

I am not saying there are a huge number of "special" kids b/c "special" to me means national team level or international elite level but there's no question in my mind, at least in south florida, that DA for ages u14-u18/u19 possesses 75% of the talented players in those age groups. So when Inter Miami starts next year, yes, there will be 4 or 5 non-DA players per age group, but i am sure there will be 15 per age group that come from existing DA programs. I am not saying ALL DA kids are great players, but i think about 75% are good players relative to their peers in the region. Please note the last part of this sentence b/f you state that DA players are nothing special. I am not talking about nationally or internationally relevant, that's a whole other conversation.

Will there be actual tryouts for Inter Miami or will player selection be only referrals

I think the point is DA was sold as a path to the national team. If you can't field 75 teams with kids talented enough to even get an invite to a camp. something is wrong. I think the point is valid that 30 MLS funded teams could produce a much more competitive talent pool. Yes kids will be missed because of location but if they all had a residential program this could definitely create an amazing competitive environment. What I would like to see is MLS Funded academies ECNL and NPL Share a showcase every year. Because we all know that every league thinks they can be the best, so put your money where your mouth is US Soccer.

This will be fun to see because all the teams that have had talent in the past will be scrambling to keep their players. Weston and Kendall will be affected the most. Boca will always be happy with the scraps.

i agree there are many poor DA programs, but just being "MLS" is not what makes a program more competitive. look at OC. if you have 2 tiers of DA competition, with relegation/promotion, this would work better. presumably most MLS Das would be top tier, but they dont get into a top tier just b/c they are MLS. ECNL/NPL clubs should be able to get into the structure as well. why not.

My guess is they will hand pick invites and maybe have a fundraiser open tryouts. where maybe one kid will stand out from the 500 that pay 200.00 each.

i think weston will be fine. they will still field very competitive teams, even if they lose 4-5 kids per age group. kendall tends to rely more on a few top players per age group and i think if these players leave kendall will struggle to field competitive teams.

I think OC would be much better if they were the only option in florida until Miami was on board. I also think you have to remember fully funded residential opens a lot of competition for those spots. But I am not opposed to relegation system, How may teams would you propose at 1 st league and second league?
