    No respect for coaches

It seems that there is really no respect for coaches these days. The pendulum has swung so far to the other extreme. It is not fair to coaches who have dedicated so much of their energy and life to a program. They are not even allowed to defend themselves in public.

I don't want to go back to the days where coaches acted with impunity but everyone should take a step back from the precipice.

Is there context to this post?

Guilford Coach resigned abruptly. Maybe a back story there.

Maybe coaches ought to come back down to earth. Lots of big heads. We have a coach that delegates everything to our manager. Everything. Never talks and shows up late and leaves early. Our last year with the club. On the sidelines are 50 yr old men joysticking and screaming like maniacs at kids and refs. Then there's the azzhats that bury teams 14-0. Lots to not respect these days

Maybe the Danbury girls coach is upset that parents are not happy that the program has gone down hill every year she has been there. Danbury is now in the Stamford category.

Respect is earned. The coaches that do their job professionally with humility and grace are universally respected. Coaches that are lazy or really don’t know what they are doing usually don’t receive much respect. When they are loud mouthed wind bags the respect diminishes almost entirely.

Totally agree. One of our HS coaches is a hard azz but runs a tight ship, knows what he's doing, gets results, earns the respect of players. The other yells a lot, just tells the players they're terrible, makes questionable calls on roster choices and is on his phone all the time. Players are not happy and would love for him to be replaced.

leaving abruptly mid season will almost always have a backstory. Short of a personal/health crisis, there's something that forced the departure.

Your graceful coach loses and you hate them
Your lazy coach loses and you hate them
The dumb coach loses and you hate them
The loudmouth coach ho loses and you hate them
The winning coach who is a loudmouth you hate them
The perfect winning coach is only liked until they don’t play your kid
See how many unlit coaches have been pushed out just this year

Would not doubt if you have other coaches leaving this mid season due to parent issues, player tantrums no backing from AD, school boards scared to death of law suits.

or coaches being aholes or doing something wrong. There's that too. Most often your scenarios but sometimes a departure is fully warranted.

Can anyone from Guilford shed some light on this development?

no comment from coach. AD comment is basically a terse "thanks for X years of service".

I don’t know all the details but here is what I can share:

Last week one of the boys did not follow the coaches direction regarding his position and formation. He was subbed out (possibly said something to the coach about his formation - not confirmed). Coach dressed him down publicly on the sideline for players and spectators to hear. Player either quit team or was kicked off (not entirely sure). The next day another player elected to leave the team as well. My understanding is parent took exception as to how child was treated and spoken to. Coach has a reputation of doing things “old school”. A “my way or the highway” type of coach. My two cents: player was in the wrong. Also believe the way we were coached 20 years ago is no longer accepted (you can argue that one forever). Coach had many successes but in recent years not so much (last year was a good year for them but no hardware). Too bad coach could not have retired gracefully. Sucks for him and sucks for the boys. No one wins here.

A few other "old school" coaches were shown the door in the last few years. Sometimes it's totally justified and long over due. Sometimes it's parents getting too involved
