    Club holdings players back

How do you handle a club that is holding players back and not promoting player development?

    #2
I realized maybe she wasn't as good as I thought, and trusted the club's development program. Eventually, she was.

Just pay the bill and shut up. You are already 2 months in arrears.

The issue here is that you know the club is not doing anything for your player, but you are still there and you will be next year. Some parents just want status. Parents just want to say that their kid made the big name premier club... Advise for all of you, forget about the big name clubs, look at the quality of coaches from other "no so BIG name clubs"

How do you define "holding players back" and "not promoting player development"?

Coaches either coach correctly or they don't.

Player not being challenged. Main focus is on players that cannot keep up. Worried player may regress.

How old is your kid? How long have you been with the current club?

That's the nature of the beast. Same with teaching. The whole team can't progress until the weaker ones catch up. You're only a few weeks in so don't give up yet. Also, you as the parent can do things to help keep your kid challenged like extra training, work in the yard, find some pickup games (I'm assuming they're too young to sort that out on their own as HS players aren't playing club right now). If your kid wants it they're willing to work at it. You can't rely solely on a coach to make your kid a better player - much of it comes from within and their own hard work. Accept that reality of club soccer and your time in it will go more smoothly. If after the fall season it's still an issue see if the club will let them play up a year or on an A team if there's A/B teams.

Player is middle school aged. Trains privately with a trainer and works out on a regular basis. Been at club several years.

I have found that it is mostly exactly the opposite .... coaches focus all of their attention on the 2 or 3 that they perceive as the best players which are usually just the biggest and fastest kids that are ahead of the curve ..... at the expense of all of the other players on the team, many of which will surpass those 2 or 3 chosen kids in terms of technical skills and knowledge of the game as well as spatial awareness. Seems to have happened for every one of my kids and at least 2 of the top 3 are mediocre to not very good players around U14 and U15 when they have lost their advantage and not been held accountable for technical skills along the way.

The big question is why would you stay if you’re concerned? You have other options.

I have also seen this, even at the big 3.

                              Agree, time to move on.

We were actually told once by our club that we were welcome to stay, but she had advanced beyond the other players and needed to find something more challenging.

Yes, a club actually willing to send a player away vs. just looking to take their $?
