Used to be that certified refs would be assigned the 7 v 7 games in Lancaster in fall. Great for refs because many short games in one shift. Decent money and good chance for experience. Recent seasons it appears teams from high schools get assigned to ref games instead? These “refs” mostly seem uninterested and haven’t taken the time (or expense) to get certified. Club games being done by untrained refs. Why take games away from referees that have shown they want to be there? Now actual refs in fall from that area get almost no games because of this. Anyone know what the reason for this is?

I think there are 2 benefits. First, the referees are free. These are college teams, not high school. Second, the college students/athletes get credit for community service, or something along those lines. It is an absolute dumpster fire (IMO). the referees/college players do NOT want to be there, could not care any less what the rules are at that age, and simply will not call anything. On the boys side, you can practically murder someone without a foul call. Are there offsides or not for U9 and U10 kids? who cares, cause they'll call it either way, often in the same game.
Disclaimer: I am the dad of a now U11 boy, and I could not be happier that I am done with the farse that is Lancaster league games for NEP U9 and U10ers.

This is nuts.
Unqualified, uncertified referees have no right to be on the field. Add to that the fact that they are disinterested and you are completely disrespecting the game.
Whoever came up with this foolish idea needs to do it right or get out of the way so someone who cares can get involved and do it right.

As a ref myself, I know that at least some of the older refs in the u9/u10 games are very legit based on what I see when I work with them in a 3 man crew. I focus on my game when I ref, and not others, so I can't really personally speak to what the younger refs are doing specifically in the u9/u10 brackets. Of course, when I have them as an AR in a larger game, I have to correct them more often but I give them the call if I think they had a better angle which makes my position on a certain play uncertain. I was taken aback when a coach said that I was the first "real referee" that they've had all season. I asked him to explain why he said that, mainly out of curiosity, and I left it at that after he explained himself. Lancaster has had understaffing issues for a long time, but perhaps it is time for the NEP to move toward an 8 game day versus the 6 game day they've ran for the last couple years.
The only time when reffing is "volunteer based" is when someone is not certified. Mostly, that occurs when you see someone calling a game out of uniform.

Also it's not the site that does the scheduling it's the assignors.

There hasn't been many openings in Lancaster for the last few seasons... I watch those emails all the time. Lately, they've focused the most around the Middlesex County area.
On a side note, I did notice that the referees this weekend in Lancaster for the Stars Tournament were very good, with only an exception of one guy (maybe 45 years old) who was working games all day long without of uniform.
