Giovanni Reyna, 15, to leave NYCFC for Dortmund According to ESPN FC

More acknowledgement from big time soccer folks that there is nothing in the entire US for our own talented players.

This is old news. Heard this 6 months ago.

Congrats to the kid and good luck. Having a few connections didnt hurt.

Guess it would have been too obvious to be signed by NYCFC?

NYCFC is a good option. But if you really want to be a pro you go to abroad (if you have a dual passport).

You didn’t share it. He needed to wait until he turned 16

Your post is 6 months behind the times and your comment is obvious. Are you suggesting that a men's US league could compare to La Liga, Bundesliga, Seria A, EPL, etc? The US women's league isn't even the top league in the world.

Posts like this say it all when it comes to American soccer. Our population is really uneducated.

It was posted more as an affirmation that soccer is for rich, white, connected folks and that the rest of us are all idiots if you are chasing pro or USNT aspirations state-side. Pulisic (and maybe Reyna) had to have the ability, connections, and cash to get to the next level by presiding in europe as a teen ....... rules out 99.9999% of our country and most likely 99.9999% of the rest dont have the ability and fortune of these two. For those who think they can get to the top from here, you are a fool ..... there are multiple other levels on almost every other continent that surpass what the US can provide.

They have the work ethic, ability and Euro passport. All important and ingredients that many young players don’t have

Fortunate. Mark Pulisic is connected but hardly rich. As it relates to Claudio again very well cinnected and he’s more well off but there are a lot of Connecticut soccer families with more wealth

Any player that can leverage that to go pro should do so as early as possible, By 16 most international talent has gone pro. Here ours go through another two years of DA (where the training and competition just isn't the same) then play in college; a few go MLS. Internationally when players start reaching their prime in their early to mid 20's ours are light years behind.

The path through the pros is not through college. Most of our U17s are in professional environments already - no college plans for the best of the bunch.

Several are heading to Germany like Pulisic did.....and now Reyna.

Poster's point is one USSF can't seem to grasp. No wonder we are failing.

I get it, just being facetious. The state of soccer in the US is no different than say hockey, basketball or baseball around the world. The best players want to get to the best leagues and strive to do so. As an example, I’m sure Sweden has an amazing youth system and pro league for hockey, however they can’t ever seem to keep their best talent (and never will), they all want to come to the NHL. Is their system thus broken? No. Unfortunately, the MLS will never keep the best talent as long as La Liga, Bundesliga, EPL, Ligue 1, etc exist. I don’t see those leagues dropping off anytime soon. It is what it is...

How are we failing if our best talent is going into the best environments too succeed? or is your contention that the US should replicate the big 5 leagues? They cant and never will.
