Alliance clubs. What has the alliance done for you?

Jack ****. Besides some of the head people getting suite tickets I've yet to see how it's helped other than losing identity and a patch.

I'd like to know honesty the benefit...

Its the royal brand in Oregon!

We turned down offers from San Diego Surf and Crossfire Premier...didn't bite at a kiddo youth league for pre teen & teenage girls..Nickelodeon league.(ecnl).

How is that going, btw with a DA in town now?

If you're at an Alliance club, and don't like it, move. Unless you are in Bend, Medford, or Eugene, there's a decent soccer club down the street.

If you aren't at an alliance club, why do you care?

My DS is at an Alliance club, and I don't care either way frankly. If the club wanted to leave, fine by me--we're here for the club, not the silly ax on the shirt. But you sound like someone with a general ax to grind against the Timbers, not someone who is genuinely interested in improving the conditions at WashT, Westside, Eastside, Capitol, etc.

Lets flip the question, what do you lose from being an alliance club? Its not like its costing them anything to be a member.

I'm from one of the cities you mentioned and you're right - TA is the only game in town. And to answer the original question we have gotten nothing from the alliance. Unless you count spamming us with camp invites.

The only thing keeping the majority of Bend, Eugene, and Medford players in their TA clubs is the many hours commute to any decent non-TA clubs.

If that were true--that the "majority" of players and families in these cities are dissatisfied with the local soccer clubs, specifically with their involvement with the Timbers--then surely, they would have recourse?

                a) Most soccer clubs have boards of directors composed of families and the community. (Some have self-perpetuating boards, but most I'm aware of have elected boards). Show up at a board meeting and complain. Demand that at the earliest opportunity, the club sever the relationship with Peregrine. And if the board refuses--and a "majority" of the families oppose the TA--replace them.

                b) Setting up a youth soccer club has a fairly low barrier to entry. One needs a coaching staff, and fields to train on. The weather in e.g. Medford is nice, US Cellular is a nice park with lots of fields, and I'm sure RVT does not have any sort of exclusive agreement with the local parks or school districts that locks out a potential rival club. Get some families together, find a coach, and leave. Start a new club. Don't worry, at first, at being "elite" and getting the A team families. Indeed, one way to get most of the local "elite" clubs by the shorthairs is to convince the B and C team families to leave; at most such clubs, the lower teams subsidize the A team (who get more training sessions and higher-qualified and higher-paid coaching, for the same fee).

Of course, I call BS on the "majority of families"--people have a funny habit of assuming there's a crowd behind them who agrees with them. Most families, I suspect, simply don't care about Peregrine--this is inside baseball for them. Some might even think the Timbers' affiliation is cool, even if it doesn't really produce any tangible benefits.

But surely if you have a "majority" supporting your cause, you can convince your club of the error of its ways.

Better than ever! FCP and CU continue to dominate while the Timbers clubs fade into oblivion, led by their Peregrine overlords.

We have asked what the Timbers Alliance does for the clubs and there isn't really any answer. The main thing I think is that it helps the Timbers control OYSA. Leagues and cups produce good cash flow. I don't know any details but I suspect they try to use some of that for their kids soccer programs. All just a guess. I don't believe they provide any training plans or anything like that, but I could be wrong.

If the Nike clubs are benefitting so much from the Timbers Alliance undermining their competitors, then why are y'all on here whining about said Alliance? If that really were the case, I'd think you'd be encouraging more.

The truth is the Timbers just want access to players, because it gives them a greater net to find studs who some day may become home grown players. As for the clubs they don't pay anything to be a part of the alliance, so although you don't get much from the, they don't get much the other way either.

In oregon they get far more mileage from Timbers/Thorns branding than a club hitching it's name to an expensive US Club league for girls that lost it's top clubs to the DA.. Jus Saying. Try harder.

Alliance clubs get nothing from the Alliance. They do, however, get to pay extra for cheap Adidas kits, get to play in cheap, re-level Timbers tournaments, and still watch all their best players leave for FCP and CU.

I just realized that between FCP and CU you're two letters away from F*** up.
