    Consider 2008 PreAcademy - Coach's Record

My son has been invited back to an ID Camp for the 2008 PreAcademy - and I'm looking at the track record of the current coach, who will be coaching next year again. It seems that his teams lost many games this year and last. If you had the current coach in the past, can you please post how your teams did - so we can properly evaluate whether to leave our current club?

I understand that in the "PreAcademy" it is about developing and playing and not about winning, but at some point, the historical record of the a particular coach can shed light on how the season will be. And I need to know before we make a decision either way.

Frankly, match outcome record is meaningless in the development ages. Individual development measures count. Unfortunately, the vast majority of coaches and clubs, including the DA system, do not know how to measure that, or simply lazy to do so, because it is a lot of work to do. What remains is the winning record. This is one of the many reasons why we have not been able to develop one single impact player out of the many million registered youth soccer players we have.

So, are you saying that it may be best to not go to the 2008 preacademy for weston? From the looks of it, they had a good team - with a mixture of players from the outside who beat the best teams in October, when their prior training was still benefiting them, and then by the end, according to gotsoccer - it looks like they were losing. Is that correct?

Also, can someone confirm a rumor that they lost to Juventus 2008 and Key Biscayne Elite 2008 the week before Disney in 2 off the book games? I want to know if that's true too.

After going undefeated in their first early season tournament, they were 18-17-4

I did not mention Weston specifically. I was talking in general terms. One can always find a coach who knows what he or she is doing. Do your homework, ask the coach questions and listen to the answers.

            Yes

That is what I am trying to and I see no rationale explanation for his teams regressing while others progress. Seems like a bad decision but will talk to him. Please everyone keep responding.

Unless the club is geographically convenient for you, I would not recommend the PDA team at any club. Any team that is not the DA or GDA is an afterthought for the club. Insufficient resources and substandard coaches are allocated to those PDA teams. In my experience, if your player is not interested in the DA/GDA, it is best to go to a club that is not involved in that league. Their first team will be equivalent to the PDA at the other club. You will get their best coaches and full attention/resources.

Pre-Da is still often better than “most” not all clubs. People need to stop putting emphasis on the title of the team. Find a good coach, w/ good players, who is willing to try & teach good soccer...

                  1. Everyone judges coaches by wins & losses..
                  2. Stop blaming coaches and start blaming kids..

If by the end of a year of training with a coach / program - a team loses to many different teams, consistently, that the team easily beat at the beginning of the year, what does that say about the coaching / system? It can't be that the team chose bad players at the beginning or that the team is only concerned with development, can it? Or does it suggest that the kids did not receive the training that they should have all season long?

To evaluate my son's opportunity, I would like your opinion on this.

I am really not concerned with winning or losing but am concerned with development. Question is, though, at some point, does winning or losing games suggest an problem with the team's development. And does that answer change if the losses are after a year of training under the coach or system when at the beginning of the year, those losses were easy wins. That's the question. Answers are opinions but will help evaluate whether going to such a team is good for my son's short and long term development or whether he should stay with the club that trained him in such a way that he was recognized by the Weston preacademy people.

How about this, players get better with playing with other better players. If the training enviroment competion is better do it. If your kid gets challenged in his current enviroment stay.

That makes sense -- so, it can't be that the practices are challenging for this team. I agree with you.
