What to do if can’t tryout for a team due to injury

I hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend.

My kid just got injured and we were told she will be out 4-6 weeks. Unfortunately, this happened right before tryouts for teams at the next level. Her current team’s coach told us she should be looking to play and train at a higher level team.

she attended the first session of tryouts at one club but performed well below her capabilities due to being sick and asthma. She will not be able to complete their tryouts. She registered for tryouts at two other clubs but will not be to participate at all.

Is there a way that a team would look at her if she can not participate in tryouts. She has not gone to open practices.

Could you recommend how to approach the club she has already attended tryouts for merely one session as well as the ones she can not participate in at all.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Been there - the timing SUCKS.

You may have to give up on the one she already went to. First impressions matter, and you may sound like you're just making excuses. As for the others, notify them right away that she cannot attend tryouts (not showing up doesn't help build bridges). In the email remind them of any "credentials" she has and see how they react - if they're interested they may respond with a hopeful email. Also, if your current coach has any contacts he can make some phone calls. Problem is no credible club will take her sight unseen, no matter what her coach says. It's possible she could "tryout" when the teams start practicing late August. Also, most teams will have a spot or two open after the fall season (kids quit, leave) so there's another opportunity to move in (this is what we did). To do either you would want to work something out with your current club to not make a contractual commitment, and they might not cooperate with that.

    Good luck

To be honest, if you or her coach don't have any pre-existing history with any of the higher end teams/clubs you were planning on trying out for, none of them are going to touch her in tryouts this month.

But all is not lost. Soccer is a mercenary business so most higher end teams will gladly add players mid-season, even if their roster is already "full", if they come across a really good player. And with many teams playing in multiple leagues (US Club and USYSA based leagues), even if you stick with your existing team as a failsafe for the fall, you would have the option of also hooking up with another team that plays in the other league and be a dual-carded player. Practices can be hard to work out and sometimes you may end up with game conflicts, but if your existing coach is blessing the move to a higher team that shouldn't be too hard to work out.

My son is in a similar situation
He was only able to try out with one club before getting injured and was not to attend all the tryout sessions. There is one session left.

He also signed up for other tryouts but obviously will not be able to play.
Can anyone suggest how to approach the club that saw him but not at his best.
Should we email the club. What would you recommend we say?
Alternatively, My son came up with the idea of attending the last tryout even though heccan’t participate to show the trainers how committed he is. Is that a good idea?

Some of the other clubs he has not tried out for yet does not have a specific contact person. Would it make sense to show up there as well. What would you recommend we say?
