    World class fc

Can anyone share experiences about world class fc? Considering it for my daughter - interested in playing time, training, assistance with college process, anything else you might think relevant.

The best club we have had our daughters at. Oldest went through the ECNL teams and is playing at her dream school, middle daughter playing on an ECNL team now and our youngest is finishing up her second year there. The facilities are awesome, and since I am there 3 days a week, it helps that they have an area for my kids to do homework and get dinner. The club has college information nights a few times a year where they bring in men and women's coaches from D1, 2 and 3 colleges to talk to the players, and they also have an academic advisor who meets with the teams to help them with college planning. We met with her privately a few times before my daughter committed. If you're thinking about joining a team there you should stop by on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night to see what's going on there. That's what we did before joining

Positive feedback, that’s good - thank you.
Once on ECNL is there still a focus on player development? Or does it change to a focus on showcasing only? I’ve heard players get moved down if not performing- of course that makes sense if ECNL is going to stay at a high level - but wondering if an effort to develop/correct is made first, or is that on parents.

Your kid doesn't get developed by a league. Your kid doesn't get developed by a club. Your kid gets developed by the specific coach/trainer that is associated with the specific team that your kid is on.

So while one would assume that the higher the level team playing in a higher level league would by default be a better developer of talent, that isn't really true. Some are just fantastic recruiters. Others may succeed by pigeon holing kids into very specific roles instead of making them well rounded players. Other's succeed just because they train at a huge club and can build strong teams just because of the volume of players they have to choose from.

Then at the same time you may have some mid-level teams where the development is fantastic, but they are working with less talented kids so you don't see that based on their W-L record or the league they play in.

The best course of action is to go to open practices for multiple clubs and see for yourself how the coaches and trainers are that will be working with your kid.

My daughter is on the 05 ECNL team. I'm guessing her coach is one of their best technical coaches because in the beginning of the year he worked a lot with them on skills on the ball, he also works with the coach of another team who seems to be really good at coaching how to play the game. The coach before our current coach was more of a "get in shape" kind of guy, which I think has helped our team a lot transitioning to the bigger field. I have a friend whose daughter is on the 02 team, which is very competitive, and his daughter is committed already as a sophomore. She has been on the team since she was 8, so I'm not sure what the turn over rate is in the older groups. All in all, I think you will happy with moving your daughter there. What age group is your daughter?

Any truth to the rumor the DoC for the Girls group was covering for another coach in a recent tourney, and was sent off? They had to (or almost had to) forfeit the rest of their games since they needed someone else to cover?

Why are you trying to cause trouble? Yes coach was carded because one of his players was being repeatedly hacked from behind and the ref ( a PDA ref, at a PDA tournament, reffing a PDA vs WC game) was blind the rough housing. We were at the game and witnessed the whole thing. Coach rightly tried to bring the attention of the ref to the fouls and was thrown out. Our coach was sitting on the sidelines so there was never a chance of the team having to forfeit. We applauded the coach for watching out for players that weren't even his.
                Nice Try though

So it's true a girls DoC was sent off during a U-13 girls soccer game?

                  Wow.

Nor sure is it that much of a wow if it is an isolated incident. I have seen some very surprising cards handed out on occasion and some seemingly cardable fouls ignored. Refereeing is not a perfect science by any means.

Someone in charge of an entire gender in a highly respected club is sent off. That's a wow moment if there ever was one.

I have no idea if it was isolated or not. I assume it was, or he wouldn't be where he was. But, it does make me ponder the direction of the organization, though, if that comes from the leadership.

How can he, in a straight face, discipline a player for doing the same later?

Not a wow moment. Of note but not wow unless it common and reveals poor character or something.

have you never seen poor quality card given?

To a youth soccer Director of Coaching? No. No, I have not.

Not a WC parent, or even part of the NY soccer scene, but we were at that game. I'll make a couple of comments:

-This happened at an '05 game, and the team was an '06. Very, very good team.
-Talking to a mom on the side, who was really nice and gave a good idea of the team and organization. All seemed good.
-The one play in particular was awful. Ref was awful. Stand-in coach was pissed; but, would rather have seen it addressed differently if that was our club.
