AC Conn - CFC Real Merger

It has been mentioned in another thread but I believe it should get its own. Is this a blow to CFC nation? Or did CFC Nation unload an underperforming money pit? What do you say? More importantly what does this mean for NE Gunners?

Good move for AC. CFC loses a good branch and now has nothing in that part of the state. Will add pressure to other branches to fill up the United program, making branches weaker.

Good strategic move for AC CT. Gets some good young boys teams and girls teams to even out club. Strong Older teams where aging out. ACC will have its challenges with organization

Minor setback for CFC. Club has only been in existence since 2015. Was starting to get some traction in SW CT as a branch. Never good to lose a branch in an area. Never sent any kids to CFCU

Major loss for CFC Real families. Lose a boutique family like club which was family friendly. Free ride is over for Families who don't pay tuition

Big question is what's the transition for AC CT post PD. He won't subsidize club forever. Does this acquisition become accretive or dilutive to cash flow? Acquisition has to be dilutive

It only helps AC's bottom line - more paying families to help cover possible shortfalls. Volume matters in this business. Very smart move on their part. It won't be a huge impact to CFC because they're so big, but it does restrict their access to part of the market. Given the history between AC and CFC it also has to sting a little.

While being at a CFC branch does help your chances of getting on a United roster, CFCU will still take outside players. Not many CFCU players came from that area, probably partly because it' hasn't been a strong area for CFC. Also until they build he Bethany facility I think most of the boys teams practiced in Meriden which is a haul from the Danbury/New Milford area. Most top girls make sure they move to Arsenal by U11/12.

I’m not aware of any United players that came from Real. All boys united teams currently practice at Bethany, they don’t practice in Meriden. Home games currently in Meriden until outdoor fields are complete in Bethany. Real was a financially underperforming branch.

Key word is paying. If you have a high non payment rate or families drop out it will be dilutive

I did say that Meriden was before, not now. Real wasn't that old and not that good so it's not surprising there wouldn't be many United players from there. I'm not sure how it could be underperforming financially as they had 6-8 teams per gender (there are branches that are smaller than that) unless they had thin rosters or were overpaying for fields and coaches

No players came from Real to CFCU. However I can think about 10 CFCU players that came from CFC West which serves many of the same towns as ACC. CFC West

How many players ever went on to the ECNL from Real? I can only imagine how much of a lose that group was. From what people are saying on the street is that Real had so many players paying nothing it was a nightmare. The few of families that actually paid to play were berry upset due to massive number of free loaders.

It’s been said about fives. Zero Real players went to United

PS. AC CT is also bad about collecting tuition. Also the ACC tuition will be much higher and travel to Newtown will be required. Expect families to drop out

That will sink any club. Since they're more often run by soccer guys, not business guys, it's no wonder so many fail

AC has gotten much better about it lately. Newtown is only for the winter months. Of course not all Real families will stay for their own reasons - travel, coaching whatever. It isn't like there aren't other clubs out there to chose from and it is a free market.
