Bang for the buck question. Not feeling like kid is getting anything special out of paying fir u10 premier. Coaches not that different than travel. I know all kids are different and no magic 8 ball here but but do you think kid woukd get behind next year playing town travel-decent team and then just do clinics/join fsa winter league? Kid likes the soccer a lot but does like to play other sports. Def. disliked one coach this year. Don’t want 12 yr old burnout.

The only thing Travel can't replicate will be quality of teammates and competition

Playing in an indoor league is not going to do much for skills per se without accompanying practice a few days a week. The indoor game is very different from outdoor game as well. Most clinics attract their share of poorly developed town kids which really limits the talent at the younger ages. In the past I have lied about my kids ages at clinics so they play up. The development and coaching is not stellar at most clinics either. Little in the way of corrections are done for kids not doing the drill correctly. There are exceptions. The kid will definitely get behind versus other kids who play decent premier with a decent coach 9 months a year. I'd invest money in 1-1 training sessions with a quality trainer versus the clinic route if the kid was serious about soccer. Or do some research and get onto a better premier team without breaking the bank.

OP can do travel + other work for another year or so and see where his kid takes it. Plenty drop out in middles school anyway. No need to spend big money to end up at the same place. Only exception would be if the travel coaching sucked (some does but definitely not all) or the kid really loved the premier club and was doing very well there. OP can also look at other premier options but the grass isn't always greener.
Also depends on whether it's a boy or girl ... girls will need to jump sooner than boys

Why the obnoxiousness? It's not witty and adds no value. Pathetic people.
OP -- we did your plan, stayed in travel with a good coach and did FSA's winter league. That will give your child a taste of what soccer is like at a big club like FSA, it is not for everyone. My son loved it, and at U12 made the move to FSA. He loved it, and they knew him which was a help when tryouts rolled around. We had a mostly good experience at FSA; my son is now playing DA.
The biggest factor in whether your child will do well is drive. Do they want it and do they want to work hard? If they do, they will go places. (And it is OK not to know that at age 10 or 11!). In fact, my son played a few sports and did well in them and wanted to move up. We told him he could pick one that he would focus on (still do the others, but at lower levels) and he picked soccer.
Good luck to you, it can be difficult getting decent advice on this board, but it can happen if you can disregard all the other nonsense.

It all depends where you want to end up down the road and I agree, many club coaches are garbage---certainly no better than a lot of travel coaches.

When they are nine it is quite frankly ridiculous to be thinking about high school varsity. Whether you are at a big club doing premier at a young age or not. We've been through it, and those 10 year old studs often fade -- maybe even most fade. No point in burning a kid out at a young age in my opinion.
Yes, do travel if you like the coach, do FSA winter and in a couple of years decide if you want to go the club route. I would agree that club is helpful to become the best player you can be as you get older. When they are NINE the emphasis *has* to be on having fun.
(understanding you can have fun at club soccer too, depends on the kid)
