How old is the kid? In what area of town do you live? I can give you better advice
Probably best club for a first timer is your local park recreational league. If he really really really likes the sport, and stands out as one of the best, maybe then you can start thinking the pros and cons of the trave soccer madnesss.

Avoid parent coach who is out of shape. You are paying good $. Don't settle for this club crap. They are ripping you off if you do. You will need to look at the biggest clubs in the area and choose. The bigger the club, the more talented kids your kid will be playing against and practicing with. Very important if your kid is top quality.
