And here we go again. Sometimes I think our club cares more about Stars than it does about our own program. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out, but I find it hard to believe all the best players are in DA particularly in the first year. Some of our showcase games were very lopsided.

They have made some decent runs at doing that in the years before the DA. If you look at it historically, Stars is arguably the 2nd strongest girls club in the NE ECNL (PDA probs being #1), so unless your goal is to set up a gotcha when it doesn't play out that way for Stars this year, I'm not sure what your point is.

Precisely. Many highly talented players remain in ECNL. Even at big clubs that have both leagues it's not black and white that a GDA team is better than an ECNL team. Maybe over time it shakes out, but my prediction is GDA and ECNL will remain neck and neck, especially at the local level. Why would you chose a weak GDA club if you have a better ECNL option in your area, especially if you're not NT material? or vice versa?

Stars is the only club in the country that didn't clearly define DA as the A team and ECNL as the B team. Check the ECNL standings. All the other clubs who were ECNL powerhouses who are fielding both teams this year their B teams are much less successful in the ECNL than their predecessor ECNl teams. Even stars have their very best YNT players in the DA so even their ECNL teams are weaker this year, but just not as weak as the other ECNL teams. The level is much lower. The top level is still the DA. The very best teams are DA. There is now just more dilution so the parity is completely lost in the DA. Time will tell, but i suspect the parity will resume over a short period of time 3-5 years. USSF will agressively cut the underperformers and replace with top performing ECNL clubs in rational geographic regions. The canaries will include Stars. I am guessing that JD is already catching it from the USSF. The others to watch are in the DC area will bethesda and Mcleab shift? Will the DA go into ohio? I could go on but it is interesting to watch.

The guy who compiled this data posted it on California site and I think those who are interested in their kid's development are interested in how this is shaking out with respect to the long term development of younger players in particular. This poster said he'd do it again for playoffs so we will see who makes headway. The conference standings show how much stronger the soccer is as you move west. Should Stars win an Ecnl championship, which is undoubtably their goal, the trophy should be cut in half down the middle to represent the dilution of their completion. :) look at Sky Blue - PDA as an example of where their top team focus is.

Poster spews the truth. No one cares about what is happening in CA or TX where GDA is much stronger unless they have a true top D1 kid or NT potential player. Ma has a handful of those kids. Look at our next door neighbors - would you send your kid to OW or CFC? There's some crap clubs in GDA and ECNL. Pick what ever club has the best coaching and fit for your kid their goals. Labels don't matter for kids with skills and a strong work ethic.

This is exactly what happened with the ECNL. Originally touted as a developmental league with restricted game day rosters and substitutions, opposing clubs that were freaked out by the closed league combined with clueless parents soon honed in on standings as the only metric of success rather than learning to play the right way.
