    Boston Breakers cease operations

NWSL down to 9 teams. Now that there are no teams in New England Hartford should make a pitch for a team.

Even in Boston its tough for a womens team to stay afloat. Still think GDA will be free if USSF doeant pay for it?

That is not good news for Women's soccer, ugh. So what happens to the Breakers youth club, do they change their name?

Hell Boston is tough for the men's game too. Granted the Revs suck and Kraft doesn't spend a nickel on them. But Boston is a sports city made up of generations of Sox, Pats, Bruins and Celtic fans. Women's soccer? Not going to happen. They don't have a WNBA team - closest is CT Sun and their games are empty. But even outside of Boston a women's soccer league is going to struggle. Female sports doesn't hold broad appeal. Large evens like Olympics, World Cup, but tennis matches get some attention. But if you're going to try and run a league you need constant tv revenues, ticket and merch sales. WNBA only has 12 teams in total and it struggles.

MA board saying NEFC gets DA. No way USSF will let a DA slot in that market disappear.

The need to fly kills any chance of this league surviving.

I know people have suggested this before, but why don't the 10 strongest MLS clubs create a WMLS league with their club names branded to them, like in Europe? NYCFC, LAFC, ORLANDO, REAL SALT LAKE, HOUSTON, etc....

If women's teams clear a profit it would pennies. I thinks its pretty clear making money in women's soccer is near to impossible. Mls clubs already have to pay for DA and get very little out of it because of the inability to sell homegrown players. Now they need to pay for women's soccer too? It just won't fly.

DA can't afford to move backwards. Breakers team is a majority of NEFC kids anyway. They'll likely get awarded the DA and then just buy new uniforms.

There's not much of a path for women's soccer. The end game is top D1 soccer for best players. 20 kids per age group make the NT pool. Everyone else in the DA is simply subsidizing the top players.

Sorry DA parent. This is a huge blow. There's no way to spin it.

My kid has an end game of playing collegiate soccer. The national team is fun to watch on TV and women's pro soccer make the same wage as a decent admin assistant.

                      The Academy is for suckers.

A great College/University is my daughters ultimate goal, and she will be better suited for any college program because of her years in DA. She will be a better footballed than any ECNL player, end of story.

End of story? You wont know the impact of GDA in college recruiting for another 5 or 10 years. You daughter will be long gone by then. GDA is going through growing pains. It will be in turmoil for some time. College recruiting at OW will not change any time soon, third tier.

The league is 5 months old, same coaches with no extra training yet, definitely not all the same players, but now it's light years ahead of ECNL? lmao

They're both watered down overall; a few clubs are much stronger than most ENCL clubs, probably most are pretty similar, some even worse. OW is in that middle group. Meh.
