We are doing a tournament at SportsWorld on MLK. It has teams from CT and Mass in it.

Nah. OW is crappy for sure, but you can't bring a town travel team or popup premier team into that tournament because OW will beat the snot out of you. Why bother?

Now, if there were a bunch of entrants at numerous age groups, and OW teams were playing up a year or two, then it might be worthwhile going.

And, it's not like OW plays nice. Back int he day, my town travel girls won the OW leagues a couple of times, but it was always disappointing how OW played. OW would have two teams in leagues, both playing up. They'd have two different teams.

But, when we played both teams, we faced the exact same players, and some of those players were playing their age (brought into this one game only) and a bunch of OW players just rode the bench all game long.

This kind of cheating (it was against OW's own league rules) was frustrating. Play the team you rostered. Play all your kids. Don't bring older guest players.

Beat them two years in a row anyway, but they were just out-and-out cheaters. I can't imagine the parents of the OW kids who were benched for those games were too happy.

Well, to be fair to OW, CFC is stacked with popup premier teams. CFC's teams are often little more than expensive town rec. So, it's easier for other popups and town travel teams to compete in that tournament than it is to compete in OW's.

Ow is just not a nice place or group. My eldest was playing league there, my youngest two took a soccer ball and were kicking it around, playing 1v1, on an empty boarded field. They got yelled at pretty harshly by OW staff and told to stay off the field unless they paid for it.

                  ***?

Needless to say, my 9 and 11 YO didn't have the cash handy.

                  Nice PR OW, nice PR.

Its an insurance issue everywhere. My kids have been talked to at OW, FSA and CFC for kicking a ball to each other just on the sides while their siblings are playing a game.

Either the field is safe for 8-11 year olds or it is not. Paying money for the two kids to rent the field does not make the field safe.

They weren't whipping a ball around the stands, or in the cafe, or on the stairs, etc.

The issue isn't that the field is safe or unsafe. The issue is liability in case of an injury. When renting a field, the renter accepts and agrees a certain degree of liability. They sign a waiver.

That's not the issue, though, because you don't sign a waiver to enter the building, eat their veinless dogs, use the spiral staircase, breath in the mouldy atmosphere, etc.

You aren't required to, that's covered under Premise Law. To use the facilities, an additional Contract, involving a waiver is a sound practice.

Facilities, bar, restaurant, toilets, all get used without a waiver. We spectate without a waiver. Two kids playing on a field but not in an organized league is similar.

The waiver doesn't cover gross negligence on the part of OW. Either the field is safe for soccer or it isn't. Two kids playing 1v1 are not testing liability issues, only gross negligence ones, if they exist.
