In HC, you have 4 basic choices (I put them in order of my preferences top to bottom):

1.) FSA - Nice facilities. A and B leagues for each age level - by far the best for session 1 and 2 (most parity in either level). Session 3 is pretty weak as most of their teams moves outdoors and do not play indoor. Leagues fill up fast (Session 1 can sell out before Sept 1st).
2.) OW - Dumpy facility. Be prepared for merged age groups of 3 or 4 years. Currently U12-16 (yes you read that right). Not suitable for any travel teams. Basically play different aged OW teams week in and week out). Good competition, but not a real league ... just a place to run. Hate boards as well.
3.) Star Hill - Nice facility. Competition is pretty weak.
4.) Sports World - Dumpy facility. Competition is pretty weak.

In HC, for me at least, it's pretty much FSA and only FSA in Session 1 and 2 (especially session 2). If you have a strong team, OW is ok if the ages line up but not a big fan of the boards or air quality there. Star Hill and Sports world are basically the same except that Star Hill is clean and Sports World is not; both are pretty weak in terms of competition.

It's a very good winter league. You're probably right, but I haven't been all over the state.
