    Girls 2004

04 List guy may have retired for this year (whhhyyyy????), but I'm hopeful some other go getter will pick up this year where he left off. I'm not that person, but I did thoroughly enjoy the thread lists and discussions. I'm starting this new 2004 thread as the old one might get confusing with the old U13 designation.

Anyway, even if we don't get a List per se, any and all discussion welcome here. So here are some the early "major players" as I see it (grouped by leagues in no particular order

    NEW ENGLAND NPL
    Breakers NPL
    SSS AP
    GPS Elite Red
    FCUSA NPL
    Breakers South Elite

    ECNL
    Stars ECNL
    FC Boston ECNL

    DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY
    Breakers DA
    Stars DA

    NORTHEAST NPL
    Stars NPL
    FC Boston NPL

Correction: Stars ECNL and Breakers DA, and then the gap. But they'll likely never play each other this year so that sucks.

Would be interesting to hear which of these teams had significant changes from last year. Who picked up players and who lost players?

Well Stars ECNL picked up Seacoast best player and a few others

Breakers DA (which was Breakers NPL last year) picked up like four top players of FC Boston ECNL team plus a few others

Breakers NPL took the rest of Breakers DA and FCB ECNL players plus top GPS/Valeo players

SSS AP only two or so minor changes

Stars DA brand new team made of mostly Stars NPL and cut ECNL girls

FC Boston ECNL literally had 3 girls remain from last year's team. Back filled with NPL and new players from outside clubs

GPS lost their strongest players and back filled from regional teams

          The rest ... no clue

Didn't SSS have its stronger 2004 players playing up last year? If so I'm assuming those girls would be on the 2004 team this year.

Would that apply to Stars as well?

No the top SSS 04's, including NT player, still play on the 03 team. However for the fall season, I assume they will probably play in their own age group, which will immediately thrust them to the top of the hill for a list for the fall season. However when those girls go back to the 03 team in the spring, that SSS team is mediocre and should not be a factor.

The 04 Stars players I assume will do the same thing. Play 04 in fall and back to 03 in spring.

In regards to GPS, a correction if you will. GPS NPL backfilled from the State Elite (or MA Elite White), which is not a regional team and has a similar training and tourney schedule as NPL. Those spots now available on the State Elite were filled by NEFC regional players.

why would someone leave NEFC for GPS?

I know a lot of the 04 girls on NEFC regional teams were upset not to make their NPL team, so a GPS state team is the next best thing perhaps.

Makes sense. Seems that the tides are turning on NEFC being the end-all be-all.

Stars Cup may give some indication to strength of these teams. FCB ECNL is in a tough bracket. They certainly did lose some amazing talent to BBA DA (at least their top 4) and some very good talent (maybe 5) followed FI to BBA NPL, but only time will tell if the players FCB moved up from NPL/picked up from outside the club can match the talent they lost. Looking forward to see the competition in that top Stars cup bracket.

How does the saying go? "Better to rule in hell than serve in heaven" Clearer path to NPL than with NEFC. State Elite trains and scrimmages with NPL often, maintains a similar training and tourney schedule, plays in the top Premiership bracket with opportunity to be promoted to NPL. Coaches are top quality and players are seen more at that level with potential for crossover play.

NEFC picked up some strong ECNL players from FC Boston that made it that much harder to advance from within NEFC. If playing for a good regional team is the end goal, staying with NEFC might make sense. If advancement is the goal, finding a better path forward with more exposure makes sense. Coaches tend to go with what they know and see on a regular basis...

Not sure where you are getting your information from. Neither the NPL or State Elite team have had any players leave to other clubs this summer.

A couple of players from State Elite were promoted to NPL and one State Elite player went to Stars NPL according to friends. Not sure why spots opened up on NPL team, but have to assume they switched clubs as this is GPS's 1st team. Doesn't make sense to switch NPL teams, so I'm guessing they went to ECNL or DA. Just a guess.
