    FKK 04 Boys ECNL

Why is an "Elite" ECNL team playing in the Disney Pre-Season tournament with ordinary club teams? Might as well not even play the games and give them the medals now. I heard they picked up some DA kids from Orlando City this last year at try outs.

    Agreed. Why even show up?

Good point. I'm going to reach out to our coach to see if we can just skip this tournament even though we are registered. It could get embarrassing having to play a Boys' ECNL team. I mean, our team is good, but not elite on a national level like boys' ECNL. Let's not forget ECNL stands for "Elite Club National Level".

Interesting that there are a bunch of threads saying ECNL is a waste of time and money and that the talent pool is watered down due to DA and ECNL competing for players but when a medal from Disney is on the line someone questions why this "elite" ECNL team is playing in the tournament. I guess it's all about perspective.

I will do the same! What a waste of time and money.

FKK boys ECNL need some wins at low level events because they are going to get embarrassed in ECNL

Simple answer: just as the other teams teams playing the same tourney: their stupid got soccer points are too low for them to be ranked in the top whatever number to be pre-qualified for the Disney Showcase. Just because you are in a certain league (first year to add to that) doesn't mean you are ranked high. We can play 10 tourneys a year n rack up thousands for them stupid points in got soccer ranking, but that would be $ for parents to pay.

I guess I should have used my sarcasm font. That's the point, they aren't elite and ECNL for boys is a bad joke.

Unless you work for the national team, your opinion doesn't mean much.

You could say that about other clubs playing low level Labor Day tournament in Sarasota instead of Disney Qualifier that weekend.

Yes there were some kids from the orlando city da that were let go from that Da and joined this team. They might stand a good chance this year because of that.

By national team I assume you mean US Soccer. And yes, they do have the same opinion. That's why they created the girls DA and essentially eliminated the significance of ECNL on the girls side. The boys ECNL league is a desperate attempt by US Club Soccer to get paypack against US Soccer's introduction of DAs for girls. It's an unnecessary, experimental league that is doomed to fail and it's certainly not a path to the national team. I'm sorry that you fell the marketing pitch that is boys ECNL because that's all it is - a marketing ploy for folks who don't know any better. I know, the truth hurts.

I'm sorry your experience with youth sports didn't turn out the way you would have liked. Sad to see someone so bitter disparaging programs that offer kids an opportunity to do something positive and grow as people.

Yeah, that's my problem. Thanks Dr. Freud. You just highlighted the problem - you believe that your child's experience in ECNL is going to result in some higher level of positivety and growth beyond whatever league they participated in last year. Of course they'll enjoy playing and of course they'll grow as players - that happens by playing the game regardless of the league (in fact - most growth occurs in training environments). ECNL is the same soccer, just more travel and more expense. What frustrates me is that the Clubs that are offering ECNL know that its not a step up, its not worth the additional money and it won't create any new opportunities for the kids beyond what they already have. Teams from NPL go to the very same National Championship as the ECNL teams. Clubs are using Boys ECNL as a recruitment tool and to manipulate parents into thinking its something that its not. Just for once, I'd like to see the clubs forget about competing with each other for dues and do what's right for the kids.
