    Am I the only ONE?

My kids is on an older high level team and I was wondering if I am the only one that cares nothing about the team, wins or losses or how anyone on the team other than my kid does?

My kid is fighting to get noticed for a college spot so at this point, I don't care if the team wins. In fact, if the team wins and my kid is not on the field, I am ticked. I cheer against the kid on my kids team that plays the same position in hopes that kid will do bad and my kid will get more playing time. I don't care if our team wins, even when my kid is on the field, if my kid does not do something good or is part of the scoring. If the other kid that plays forward scores, I get ticked as I know it may mean less playing time for my kid.

Am I the only one that thinks this way? I don't really care about your opinions about how its a team sport and this attitude is terrible. It's all about MY KID at this stage of the game. When my kid is not on the field, I turn away and rarely watch or go surf my phone instead.

No, you are not the only one. American culture is becoming more selfish and self-absorbed on many levels.

That or burn out. I know I'm getting burned out; I don't think it's selfishness but maybe wisdom with age :). With two already in college I see how little it all matters in the end. Kids find their own right path. My last one is starting HS now and honestly if she decided to drop club altogether I wouldn't be sad.

Your kid will be evaluated first and foremost on his ability and chances to graduate from college. After that the evaluation will focus on his ability to play and on his psycho-social behavior. Both are equally important, because both can secure of jeopardize the job of the coach. If he learned psycho-social behaviors from you, he will have no chance to get into a college program.

Go play golf, or do swimming. Your kid (child is the proper way of saying that cause a kid is a baby goat) needs to learn how on to be on a team. At the end of the day the team wins and loses, and if your child can't support that then they should go play a individual sport. Also is this how your going to act if your child is on a college team? More than likely there freshman year they will sit the bench as well....

Maybe, not sure. If they are on the college team and getting money for college I really couldn't care less how the team does or my CHILD does. It will be over in 4 years, or sooner from injury or lack of desire. My child will make their way with academics, not sports.

You are right to some degree, I would prefer it if my CHILD was in an individual sport but soccer it is. Do you really care if the team wins or how it does if your CHILD sits on the bench the entire game and contributes nothing to the game? Don't tell me subs and practice players are important because they aren't.

This is a lesson in the real world. Either you are up on the stage, or down in the pit serving drinks. (Vegas Vacation). Don't really care to watch unless my kid is getting the praise and winning the game.

With a more than 4.0GPA and a high SAT score, I'm not too worried about my CHILD graduating from college.

This thread was started by a coach because a soccer parent does not use this sort of metacognition.

Hope you stay on terms with your KID years from now when they are years into therapy so they can include he bill in your mothers day card.
