Daughter just finished a year with a major club and am very disappointed in clubs efforts to place her. What does your club do?

Does your club help with college?

I hope you didn't think your club would just magically land your kid a spot. Most of the work falls on your kid, not the club. Better clubs will have maybe a presentation about the process and information on line to read. Coaches should meet with each family to talk about what level of play is appropriate for the player and offer a few suggestions of programs. After that the player has to start identifying programs, contacting coahes, sending game and tourney schedules, doing visits, doing ID camps and selling themselves. A club may (should) take calls from college coaches or make them on the player's behalf, but that's about all they do at that point. The heavy lifting is the player's work, not the club

not sure why anyone assumes that this falls on the Club. Like most things its a function of the players ability and the relationships you build within the Club.

When your recently graduated kid is trying to get a job and you reach out to a friend in the industry. That should be what a club does. They should provide your kid with an introduction and vouch for your bonafides. The family/kid needs to do the rest.
"certainly jump in to negotiate the deal." ????

PS - The schools were only mid to lower tier D1 schools that I heard about. Perhaps another reason FSA commit lists are not great, but I can't figure out why they wouldn't find a way to sell their kids better than what they have apparently been doing.

Can't speak for any other club but CFC has been more than helpful with us and for that matter our team. CFC has walked my daughter and I through the process and has contacted several coaches that they have good relationships with and we have been on college visits that the coaches have spent an entire day with us. There is not a close 2nd in the college placement to CFC. Friends of ours are with other clubs and they don't get close to what we get at CFC.

I have heard from more than one of the older kids parents that they are fairly certain that the college coaches contact with their coach (3 of the ECNL coaches) actually killed their chances of going to some of their top choices. That was very surprising to hear. I get the integrity and not lying part, but it sounds as if they not only didn't accentuate the kid but that their comments included negative statements.

I don't care what school my daughter chooses as long as it is a good fit but I do not want her to be hampered by her own coaches if she finds a great school that does offer athletic money. She is not a top 50 school, D1 player but she is a solid starter on her team and can definitely play D1 or D2. I think about this scenario a good amount and it seems like that would put her at a major disadvantage, even from non-ECNL who have coaches that "sell them" better.
