New to a club this past year and I am being asked to manage my kids team next year. Seems like a lot of work, any pros or cons? Looking for advice.

Let your club hire some admin people to do all that work. This just another way these clubs rip you off.

I don't know why clubs have parents as team managers. Let the coach do his job, having a middle man often just leads to more confusion.
My kids are both at the same club, one team had a parent manager this year, while the coach took care of everything for the other team. Guess which team had more communication problems and major mix-ups?
I think when a coach has a team manager, they end up being less proactive in figuring out what is going on, thinking the manager will take care of everything. Half the time, our coach had no idea when tournament games were, or if there were changes in the league schedule until the last minute, since he didn't need to coordinate an entire team of players to be at the right place at the right time. We ended up getting a lot of last minute emails with important details from the coach resulting in many frustrated parents.

A good team manager makes everything run more smoothly. My preference is when a club has someone doing that work to avoid issues. But at smaller clubs sometimes that isn't an option and it can help keep costs down. It is work but mostly busy work. My advice is if you do it you must stay neutral and unbiased...even just appearing too chummy with some parents and especially the coach can cause issues. Doesn't matter if nothing is going on - appearances matter. Do a good job job and most parents will be appreciative. Some will be a pain in the azz no matter what you do

Back to the original post, I would say, these lyrics are directly applicable to the job of team manager.
"Knee 'pads,' Jeanie never wears no knee 'pads'
Have to be so drunk to try a new dance
So afraid of every new romance...."

A smart coach asks the parent of his/her best player to be manager. Then there's not a question of favoritism.
