    Thornz gda to FOLD??

    It's been a spectacle to date. Playing in bronze level competition against C teams. Now they are mandated to practice 4 minimum days per week, travel out of town extensively during school, banned from high school, very few college signings etc. Most top clubs putting A team in ECNL.

    Plus the NWSL is very unpopular throughout most of the country. Pro pay is very very low.

    Will they last very long? Opinions?

    GDA is a joke. League set up to ideally develop the .1% of players at the expense (literal and figurative) of the 99.9%. It will succeed for a while because most parents believe their player is a .1%-er. The kids will eventually tire of living a life that revolves around soccer at the expense of everything else, then traveling to games to sit the bench while the stars play. I give GDA a 3-5 year lifespan. Then it will either morph into something that looks very similar to ECNL or it will fold.

    And no I'm not an ECNL parent. I'm a TA parent who does my homework.

          Actually, by not allowing high school sports and having 3 practices a week, they are leaving time for athletes to study. If your soccer player is playing ECNL or club soccer (3-4 practices/week) AND playing HS soccer, basketball and track (5 days/week)there is no time left for studies. Not to mention, those girls will be at a greater risk of injury with such little recovery time between activity. Thorns will be traveling some weekends but,like ECNL, they will also have home games. It seems to me they will have more free time than the girls who are trying to do it all.

            Four practices a week and being out of town on weekends is hard on homework time.

                NWSL is not much fun to watch outside of Portland. And they are losing all the best players to Europe.

                    Doubtful. Probably get through this coming season but then doubtful.

                      So US Soccer mandates four minimum practices a week. Does that mean there could be more?

                        Doesn't matter in Oregon. Thorns Academy doesn't follow US Soccer mandates. See the $125 tryout fee.

                          It will be a hard road. Trying to keep it together will be a big job.

                              NWSL is painful to watch in most parts of the country.

                              I doubt girls are going to be as willing to give up their high school experience so my bet is that it doesn't last long.
