    Tournament Question

We have only been playing club soccer for a year now. I notice that many tournament websites say "Accepted Teams will be notified......" From your knowledge do tourneys ever reject teams?

    #2
Yes. The higher quality tourneys have more teams applying that they can accomodate. When they have to make cuts then a team's history will be taken into account and the weakest teams (generally ) get the axe

Do they get axed, or do they open up a lower division?

This is where it becomes a benefit to be playing for the 4th or 5th level GPS team. Even though your kid is not the next mia or landon tournament acceptance is guaranteed in all of the GPS tournaments. Yes you will likely be playing your games against other GPS town level teams but you aren't on pins and needles waiting to see the acceptance list for the tournament.

Another scam thread early in the morning. Easy to guess the purpose of the guru's lesson plan today.

Do you reckon they'll let you in the draw at Wimbledon or the US Open just because you want to play?

The better quality events will cut teams. They are positioned on being high quality/highly competitive. They dont want to take just any team that applies but quality teams. Below that it will vary - many will be restricted based on field availability. Lowest level events go begging for teams

Depends on your definition of "newbie". My kid is moving up the ladder, but there's a lot of rungs on that ladder and she has a long way to go. May be moving into a NPL team next year. We looked at the Jefferson Cup site and was floored, impressed, on how big that is.

So, yeah, I was studying the sites and looking at teams I know, where they are, etc. But, I read all stuff about the game all the time, so maybe I'm not normal.

Sure...And just another newbie who hangs on TS all day ready to immediately reply to all posts. Your family must be incredibly proud of you and especially Dad.

Wow. I've been involved with the game for 40 years, and am happy to see my daughter catch onto the love of it that I do. I watch games, I watch teams playing before hers, I watch it on TV, I play it, I've coached it, I've reffed it a little. So, while I do read through posts and reply on occasion, not sure what else that has to do.

That reply of mine was the first I had in this thread, and the first on any subject today.

                        Have a pleasant day!

There's too much history with TS nut jobs. Even seemingly genuine posts are met with suspicion. But nine times out of ten it all plays out as predicted

JeffersonCup is one of the oldest tournaments in the country and they are generally pretty selective. Given their location they are within driving distance (albeit a long one) from many densely populated areas. They turn away large numbers especially at their showcase weekend for the girls. They have an affiliation with the NPL so you'll notice that they are heavy on NPL and ECNL teams. It's a good event. PDA is considered to be a stronger event.

Lol. 40 years of experience in all manner of ways but just happen to be clueless about how tournaments work.
