What are the dates tryouts this May?

For academy clubs and Portland Timbers Academy? Trying to plan a vacation this May. Thanks. Usually all of them usually roll on the same dates and times which is never benefit for a player to find the best fit.

I suppose contacting them directly for accurate information is so much harder than asking people on anonymous chat board.

Was going to post it but can't make heads or tails of the email thread that was forwarded to me.

In summary - tryout schedule will make every attempt to maximize Timbers/Thorns position at the expense of OYSA and other DA clubs. However, in the long-run it will be self-defeating.

Better to all be on same date. Force players to make a decision on one or the other. The clubs will know who is serious and who is not this way. If they were on different days, some players would commit and then break commitment. Or just hang on the offer until they have the other tryout. This way players don't have time to dilly dally and no time to shop around.

Players have to put on their big boy/girl panties and make a decision sooner than later.

                This sounds like socialism.

That would be some BS! Always thought tryouts were on the 1st or 2nd week in May. If it's after that I guess my kids don't play club soccer that season. Baseball anyone??

                          Timbers Website on Tryout dates

                          Tryout regulations for 2016-17

As has been talked about and agreed upon in multiple meetings, for the 2016-17 seasonal soccer year, to participate in the Timbers and Thorns Leagues, all clubs will abide by the same tryout dates.

The State Cup Finals will be played on May 7, 2016. May 8 is Mother’s Day. No club will hold a competitive tryout for Girls of any age group prior to Monday, May 9, 2016. No club will hold a competitive tryout for Boys of any age group prior to Thursday May 12. This will allow the Portland Timbers Academy staff to hold tryouts for their U18 (1998 & 1999 birthyears), U16 (2000 & 2001 birthyears) and U14 (2002, 2003 & 2004 birthyears) age groups uninterrupted on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of that week.

Any club or team that does not abide by these tryout date restrictions, will be denied entry into the Timbers and Thorns Leagues. This information will also be posted on the Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) website.

Thanks for your adherence to these agreed upon rules, as well as your continued support of the Timbers.

That was for OYSA for last spring. Academies and ECNL can hold their tryouts whenever they want, and they will be before OYSA tryouts. Thorns usually wait until summer to pick up the scraps from the Alliance teams that naturally fall apart.
