    NWSL announcement

I work in television and folks were talking about http://www.excellesports.com/news/nw...-announcement/ all day. Nobody knows what's going on but rumors are that its something big.

Any thoughts? Distribution deal for televising games? Not the ideal network for women't soccer? A reality show about being on a NWSL team?

If it were specifically for the A&E channel it would have to be a reality show or similar - that networks doesn't do game broadcasts. Having a list of players with different positions and experience (a rookie, a GK, a top scorer) sounds reality show-ish to me. If not well executed it could be a train wreck - most of those shows are unwatchable. But the ties to other channels could be for games.

Let us know what comes out today plz

My wife is going to be p|$$ed. She loved that channel! She better hope the O! channel doesn't purchase WNBA games; she will have no girl-tv left!

It's girls' sport. Surely, girls can watch girls' sport?

It's definitely a logical thought, but it simply doesn't happen. How is ESPNW doing? Women and pro sports is not a good combination. Maybe for tennis with a grand slam final between two all-time greats (like this past weekend which i didnt watch), but even then not so much and rare at best. No women's sports that are on weekly or daily draw well. Even UCONN women's basketball was very localized. Sorry, this is not a wise decision for a women's national network.

Well, I'm not interested. It's all I can do to watch the Prem games I am interested in, there's no time for women's league even if I wanted to, and I don't. Sadly, maybe Sepp Blatter's suggestion that they wear shorter shorts will get them more viewers, but women's pro soccer just really is a non-starter. Even MLS struggles for viewers.

Just because women watch Lifetime doesn't mean they want to watch women's sports on Lifetime or any other channel

Lifetime is crap. Women's pro soccer is crap. I think there's some opportunity here.

A reality show about female soccer players would get better ratings. It certainly would be more interesting

45% of NFL viewers are women. 40% of NFL viewers are women. NBA and NASCAR both draw under 40% female but women are the fastest growing demo for those sports.

I think women's soccer is exactly the demo for Lifetime. The issue is NOT the demo... the issue is whether people will come to Lifetime for live sports.

Meant to say 40% NHL viewers are women.

Forgot to add that women may watch men's sports because of the cute guys... question is whether they will watch other women.
