    OYSA and Celtic

    http://www.celticfc.net/news/11415

CELTIC Football Club is delighted to announce a three-year partnership with the Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) who become the first US State Association to join the club’s lauded International Partnership Programmed.
The partnership will involve OYSA hosting two coach education clinics per year in Oregon, USA where Celtic FC coaches will share valuable insights into how Celtic Football Club develops young players.
Coaches from Oregon will also be invited to Glasgow to train with their Celtic counterparts as well as having the opportunity to visit Celtic’s renowned annual International Coaches Convention in Glasgow.
With over 55,000 players and 10,000 coaches registered within their organization, the Oregon Youth Soccer Association represents the largest partner to join forces with the Bhoys.
Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers said: ‘’I’m delighted to hear that we are continuing to build our international football partnerships around the world with the addition of Oregon Youth Soccer Association.
“Celtic is a football club that is synonymous with investing in coaches so that we can help develop young players. If we can add value to the fantastic work done by all these hardworking grassroots coaches in the US by sharing some of our expertise, then that not only helps these clubs but also extends the size of our global Celtic family.’’
John Madding, OYSA Technical Director, added: ‘’The Oregon Youth Soccer Association is excited to partner with the world-renowned Celtic FC. Over the past year we have worked closely to design a relationship that will focus on continued development opportunities for our coaches.
“Celtic FC has a rich history of player and coach development both in Scotland and here in the US and we are looking forward to working with their staff in new and creative ways.’’
The first visit to OYSA is planned for January, 2017 and will see Celtic’s International Soccer Academy Manager, Willie McNab travel to Oregon to deliver a coach education workshop.
Speaking of the historic agreement McNab said: “We are delighted to welcome Oregon Youth Soccer Association to our International Partnership Programme and it again emphasises our commitment to building relationships across the globe.
“This is the first ever partnership with a State Association within North America and we are very keen to build on this. OYSA is a very ambitious and progressive organisation and we are looking forward to a long and prosperous partnership.”

Doubtful it will hurt Oregon soccer. I think it is sort of cool.

Are the Timbers taking a cut, or god forbid is OYSA pursuing something independent of the Timbers?

Guaranteed Timbers are getting something out of it. Celtic isn't much of a club internationally, but they'll be charging the going rate for these types of deals - anywhere between $50 and $100K per year. Guess who is paying for that - all you OYSA parents.

Love it! Although I'm not sure FC and Xfire are really anti-OYSA . . . Timbers however.

I think they are more anti - "Timbers controlled OYSA" which is what we have right now.

Snarkiness aside if that's possible, I would love to hear one way this will positively impact youth soccer in Oregon. I am a TA parent and I am baffled. Our independent club joined TA because we felt shut out of the decision making process with OPL. Guess what? Same s**t, different day. We are still shut out while Eastside and Vancouverr are the power players in TA.

Meanwhile, Thorns Academy has decimated our girls teams and provided a laughably inferior product to ECNL. ODP has gone into the toilet and, with RTC, become one of the most blatant money grabs I've ever seen in youth sports. And now we are supposed to feel good because we joined forces with Celtic? What does that even mean? Eastside and Vancouver kids will get some photo ops and maybe a trip overseas to play once every few years? How much of my club soccer fee is going to subsidize this?

If my kid didn't love this sport we would have been gone years ago. Every single person affiliated with OYSA should be ashamed of themselves.

Not sure if this Celtic thing has any thing to do with the Timbers . . . will say there are plenty of us waking up with a Timbers hangover.

I'm glad to hear it's not just me...I guess. If we didn't live hours away from Portland our daughter would be doing ECNL. Not because we think it's a magic ticket to college (we don't), or because we are rich and have money to burn (we aren't), but I don't want to give another dollar to the TA soccer machine. We like our local club just fine...but there is universal sentiment that we gave up things that were important to our identity and got NOTHING in return. And when I say nothing I mean squat.

So I take it that you don't get teary - eyed watching your daughter run on to the pitch wearing the Timbers logo? OK, time to step the game up and choose an internationally known icon. That was the marketing plan to take over more clubs. Plus they picked another green team so the boys still match when they update kits.

Maybe the geniuses who sold us all that the Timbers would "unite" Oregon soccer were right - united in contempt for their money-grabbing ways.

Oh well the Vancouver and Eastside folks sure seem to love them.

Keep Oregon (and the couv) weird.

There isn't a single person in our club - coach, parents, players, board members - who will say a good thing about TA. The only thing we got out of it was the extra expense of buying new uniforms when they weren't needed and rebranding the whole club. Let me be clear - OPL was no better. We were treated like second class citizens as the big 6 clubs catered to parents who balked at actually driving to Eugene or Bend for a game (against teams that usually beat the big 6 so spare me the "they weren't competitive" argument). TA wouldn't exist if OPL hadn't shoved the non PDX clubs out the door. You all suck as far as I'm concerned.
