Why are teams paying this money to attend and play local teams that they can scrimmage for free (other than refs' fees)?

To prove they are the best team in a 15 mile radius. yay. If you want to measure yourself against real competition, play real competition, not your neighbors, like you did with summer whiffleball games in the backyard.

Exactly. These tournaments are fundraisers. Plain and simple. Clubs scratch each others' back. Anyone with common sense can figure it out. But parents are suckers and will be cheering and screaming and carrying on like idiots all weekend for a useless plastic trophy. Better off having them watch premier league on Saturday morning and scrimmage sunday with a local club of comparable level.

Perhaps, but it still doesn't change your loser status. In fact, by being the hashtag police, I think it elevates your rank in the department.

There are teams from Miami-Dade County, Broward County and Palm Beach County in this tournament. In what county are you not involved in soccer this weekend?

Where do you go for tournaments to play high level competition ... Mars? North Dakota ? All tournaments are the same
You can't afford going to Europe just be happy there is a game for your to win another trophy
This tournament is pretty decent and not crowded like Disney stuff

But this tournament isn't run by a club. It's a fundraisers for the directors to line their pockets with cash.

No problem with that. This is America where capitalism was born. You work to make money, or you don't ?
They are just trying to make some money legally, nothing wrong. the tournament is great
