    Ajax

Ajax out of the champions league.

Portland Academy should look at this Ajax lost 4-1 with 66 to 34 % of the possession.

You have to score goals it's not good enough to have possession when will teams learn and when will these lemming Portland clubs realize they are doing their players a disservice

Isn't it Portland Timbers and Washington Timbers that have contracted with Ajax for curriculum and coaching development?

And what do the tournament failures of a European pro team have to do with Oregon youth soccer? Should all the local clubs become affiliates with the Rostov (the team that beat Ajax) academy?

          Portland Issue

The reason why Portland should readjust is because while they teach the possession play out from the keeper stuff which is great they also need to focus on forward play.
Forwards are one offs you love them or hate them you have players they you hate because they moan about everything they kick your center back but score goals. But if that player came to your clubs you would love him. Those players don't get on the Academy team.
I'm a fim believer that good forwards are a natural and don't come from training. Yes you can hone their skill sets but you don't coach a player to be a forward as fox in the box they just have that knack.
The PacNW training right now is to coach that away let's have possession possession possession. As we see with Ajax one of the great clubs at the forefront of coaching is that they don't have a great goal scorer. Look at Barcelona they were a very good team but they bring in Suarez (who wasn't barca coached) and they turn into the best team on the planet. Say what you want about Suarez he is a natural goal scorer.
Now tell me where your natural goal scorer is for any of the timbers Academy or timbers alliance teams are. Yes they have possession I'm abundance but no final product

Did you really say "Timbers Alliance team ... have possession in abundance" with a straight face?

Also shrewd businessmen - thus Coerver programs from coast-to-coast and a couple of times a generation Ajax peddling "their way" to the hungry American consumer.

Barcelona is a product of the Dutch model. They've been knocked out before also.
Trust me, Heads will roll at Ajax for this. Ajax makes decisions based on long term. We live in a country where we focus on the now. Most Americans will look at this like the incompetent person above. The true football people know that the likes of Ajax and Barcelona create more of the top players in this world than anyone else. Their foundation of their development models are from the same mold. I'm sure there is disappointment but don't worry, they will be back.

The Washington Timbers go to Ajax and Barcelona every year with 40 players and coaches.
                    Is that a bad thing?
I heard that the Ajax and Barcelona trainers come to Vancouver each year also.

I'd say that Barca have at least three "natural goal scorers" on the roster; and while Suarez is a fine striker; overall he's the third of the Big Three in Barca's frontline. (Were I starting a team from scratch, I'd pick Neymar over Suarez, and I'd pick Messi over just about anyone).

The thing about Suarez-esque forwards--many of them need someone to get them the ball to be effective! Now whether it's short passes, crosses from the wings, set plays, or even snagging rebounds, back-to-the-net strikers need service. While you might be right that many of the local clubs over-emphasize tiki-taka style passing games and under-emphasize individual technique (ADF seems to be an exception of late), there are good reasons for that.

He makes the other two tick. His runs of the ball give Messi and Neymar time to do there thing. Neither of them are goal scorers they are goal assists.
Your view this me you don't understand the game. Month resent Olympics the Brazil coast said Neymar has to let others play when he did Brazil turned into an unbelievable team.

                            Forwards

All the talk is great but at the end of the day you have to score goals.
Timbers from top to bottom can't score at any level. Forwards are a rare breed let's not coach them out of the game.
Their attitude is currently alien to the American psychology and as such you want players you can mold. That's good for the reactionary positions like defence and midfield but doesn't work for forwards.
Their work is off the cuff the stuff the defensive players can't feel. So if you do the normal you will be closed down you have to so the money norm so that defender is thinking all the time. Until the American game see this you will always be third best

Does the bow tighten the string, or does the string bend the bow?

Obviously, Suarez's holdup play gives Messi, Neymar, Iniesta, etc. space. And obviously, their playmaking and ability to do things with the ball make Neymar effective as a striker. Both of these things are true; you write as though they are mutually exclusive. And while Messi dialed down his scoring for Barca ("only" 26 goals, compared to 40 for Suarez last season), to suggest he's not a goal scorer is patently silly.

Your comment is asinine--when sprinkled with ridiculous insults and attempts to pull rank on the subject, it's doubly so.
