My evaluation of the USMNT players !!

My take based on this Cup performance and the last few qualifying games.

Guzan - OK but not world class, keep him. Tim Howard is getting old, tough to make next WC squad.

Yedlin - If he's not good now he never will be. Doesn't understand the game. A perfect example that speed doesn't make a soccer player. Not a starter. Keep him as a sub.

Cameron - Decent defender, but not world class. Keep him.

Brooks - Good defender and young, he'll get better. Keep him.

Johnson - Completely average but can play if there's nobody else on the bench.

Bedoya - All he does is run but it's not always good enough. No offensive skills or tactical discipline. I would start looking for somebody else in this position. Out !

Bradley - Not good enough in that position. Too slow, poor defensive skills and 1v1 skills. Doesn't provide enough through balls and hardly ever scores. Got completely outplayed vs Argentina. Out !

Jones - The best mid for the US lately. Shows a lot of heart, hustle and ball recovery and once in a while scores. He does everything Bradley doesn't do. But he's getting older so may not make it to Russia. But definitely a keeper for now.

Zardes - Not even close to good enough for that position. No 1v1 skills, speed or surprise. Low goal scorer and assister. He runs a lot but that's about all you can say. He needs to be replaced. Maybe a sub but not a starter.

Wood - Shows some promise although he's already 23 so there's limited upside there. But from what he's shown deserves to stay on.

Dempsey - The best in this Cup and one of the few players that can score for the US. But he's also getting older and may not make Russia 2018.

Nagbe - Shows promise but haven't seen enough of him so tough to evaluate.

Pulisic - Very young. Shows promise but is in a key state in develpment. Tough to judge.

Besler, Orozco & Zusi - Average players. Not good enough for WC competition.

That's my take after watching the last 15 games or so. In my mind, Klinsmann has completely failed to find and develop new talent and take the US to that new level. Other past coaches have done the same work and got paid half the salary. We're 2 years away from Russia 2018 and he's still got a few dinosaurs on the team that probably won't make it.

    Verdict - Klinsmann OUT !

The fact that you made that comment tells me I know soccer 100 more times than you. Believe me.

You need to get outside a little. Fabian Johnson is an excellent player in the Bundesliga playing for Borussia Monchengladbach. He had 8 goals this year (2 against Bayern Munich) playing as a midfielder and wing. He is creative and skilled on the ball. The problem was din gdong Klinnsman playing him out of position at back where he obviously didn't want to be or where he excels. It was infuriating for me. to watch. probably was for him also. Nagbe consistently on the bench was another big bonehead move from Klinnsman. The faster he is gone the faster we improve.

RE Johnson, I don't care how he does in a 2nd rate team in a weak league dominated by Bayern Munich. In the US team he's completely average. I've been watching soccer for over 40 years and played for that long as well. I know what I'm talking about.

So Brooks is "Good defender and young, he'll get better" but Wood "Shows some promise although he's already 23 so there's limited upside there." Brooks and Wood are both 23 why is there no upside for one but the other will get better.

For Zardes, "Not even close to good enough for that position. No 1v1 skills, speed or surprise. "

Zardes scored the winner against Ecuador and had the assist vs Paraguay. Yes it was a tap in for the goal vs ecuador but he was the one who knocked it down for Clint to pass it.
He has very good speed. Does he make mistakes, yes but he hustles on both sides of he ball and helps the team more than he hurts them.

Yes, Yedlin still makes mistakes but if truly know what you are talking about and have been watching the US over the last couple of years you would see how much he has improved over the last year and a half. He is just 22 now almost 23. If he get's consistent playing as a defender he still can improve. He is much calmer than he used to be and has great recovery speed. He still has plenty of upside. No way near writing him off yet.

One of the only things I truly agree with you about is that other coaches have done the same work at half the salary. But he is signed another couple of years already so what good does it do to fire him and have to pay his contract out if we don't think a new coach will improve things.

And you say that Johnson is on a 2nd rate team in a weak league. You are a complete idiot. Germany is a very strong league and he is on a champions league team. The only US player that is playing on a champions league team. He might be a better midfielder than defender but don't blame him for Klinsmann not playing him there.

It doesn't sound like you actually watch the games. I bet your the guy that is commentating the whole match not paying a lick of attention to the screen.

You also say you have been playing over 40 years and know what you are talking about. I bet you are one of those full kit wankers that goes to the local pickup game and sits up near the goal yelling at everyone to pass you the ball. Tap one in every once in a while and think you are the MVP. You probably have some type of Barcelona Jersey in your closet because all wankers like you do.

Maybe you can start your own Soccer Podcast and call it the Full Kit Wankers club. I bet you will have a loyal following.

Not the original poster but he was much closer to "correct" than you are! Zardes is a complete joke, right up there with that ridiculous looking hair. Yedlin is just awful! Most every goal scored against the US, other than the Argentina game that he did not play in because of back to back stupid fouls in the previous game, were scored on him or his side of the field. He was either out of position or just getting beat. Sorry but speed does not trump stupid! Brooks showed how far he has to go when he played Messi and Friends. He does not see the field well, his turnovers are around 80% per game, and his quickness is zero! Give him 10 yards to get going and then he is pretty fast! Bedoya, poor guy! He is so mentally slow! You can see the question marks coming out of his head when he plays! Sorry but other than Dempsey and Johnson, this entire team needs to be replaced, included the staff!

If you are such a great analyst then tell me who to replace them with ? YOU CAN'T because you have no clue. Your an armchair quarterback that thinks you know what you are talking about but have no clue. You knock on Brooks but the fact is him and Cameron are the best center backs that the US has. Zardes is not world class but no one on the US team is. If you cant see the value he adds to the team then you are as clueless as you sound.

They beat Bayern, twit. primarily because of Johnson. And Brooks was excellent and should be a pillar for years to come.

I agree with everything except Nage and Pulisic should be getting playing time if not starting with this group. Also I think Klinsmann needs to pick a hat coach or technical director for the U.S. He may be better revamping the Youth system? He certainly can't coach a lick...

Sorry mate but I stopped reading when you said "wankers". If you're English then you better worry about Brexit and not soccer. Soccer is not your thing and my assessment was right on. We're pretty sick about all those Brits coming off as great soccer coaches when in reality they're the wankers. Keep learning and leave the opinions to those who know more than you !

Wanker was near the end of my post so you read the whole thing.

I also did not hear you deny that you are indeed a Full Kit Wanker.

So who's name is in the back of your Barcelona jersey. Probably Messi, but maybe you Neymar as you seem to like the pretty boys.

Please keep us informed when you are posting your next Podcast. We look forward to your clever commentary.
